Comment 1:
mbk/pocketdol studio is historically not a great company, and bae173 was not performing well. there was also probably a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that contributed to him terminating his contract that we don't know of.
from the outside looking in, dohyon has had a rough few years after particopating in two survival shows, debuting in x1 at only 14, disbanding just a few months later due to controversy, having a subunit debut with hangyul, and re-debuting in bae173. promotions for bae173 were inconsistent and poorly executed, with only 3 comebacks after debut. when comparing that to other post x1 groups, most of them had twice as many comebacks in the same amount of time. he was able to produce music for the group, and do some producing for other projects also, but it's very likely he wasn't seeing any money from that. he's very young and very talented, and that youth and talent was basically being wasted.
that's just my take on it tho as a former oneit who casually followed bae173 - i'm sure people more involved in the fandom would have more insight

I’m an else (who has been casually tuning in since dohyon was my bias)
Basically what soonstar said was correct.
Pocketdol (a subsidiary of mbk) is known for their mistreatment + lack of promotions for their idols, so it’s not really surprising that Bae173 took the same turn.
I’ve been following them since debut and at first everything was good. They had a decent debut with promotions on the weekly music shows, weekly idol, and not to mention their dance covers going viral. It was clear that they had the talent.
Fast forward months later, it was quiet but they eventually had a comeback. ‘Loved You’ was a decent comeback but it didn’t live up to their debut song. Which is fine but they weren’t promoting in that span of time so they lost the hype, no big deal. Well fast forward almost a YEAR LATER and they came back with ‘Jaws’ which Dohyon had fully written and composed himself. Same with Loved you and their most recent comeback, Dash.
It had been revealed that the members within the group do everything themselves when it comes down to content. They film, edit, and even subtitle everything. The company helps them with absolutely nothing. Not to mention while Else’s were waiting for a comeback in the year they weren’t active, a survival show for MBK/M25 (a subsidiary of Pocketdol) newest girl group was going on. So they used Pocketdol’s dance room and everything. Which most likely halted the boys’ comeback (just assuming).
In October 2022 the company announced Dohyon would be going on a health hiatus due to his ongoing covid symptoms from months prior. Then they left the fans with nothing. No updates or anything. Then the company decided to announce Bae173 would be participating on a survival show ‘Peak Time’.
All and all the company is absolutely horrendous. While I do admit the boys did see small overseas promotions to Japan, they have done nothing for them. Dohyon has not only produced and composed for his group but also Class:y as well. He’s been in this company for years and has seen most likely the worst of the worst. For example he graduated this year and was sent without any managers or any company staff while fellow member Bit was. While he’s busy winning his lawsuit, MBK/Pocketdol is gearing up to debut another boy group as we speak.
Comment 3:
They announced his hiatus in October 2022, for health reasons (long term Covid effects) but still made him go to Japan in November to complete a fan meet with Hangyul even after the "hiatus". Then pretty much locked him out of BAE173 until he basically filed an injunction to terminate his contract. He was going to file earlier this year but didn't because he didn't want it to affect his members in BAE173 while they were competing for Peak Time. The biggest problem was that during his hiatus, he was forbidden by his company to go on any form of social media so no one knew what was going on with him. I'm glad he got out of that company.
Also (I can't remember the source for this):
Unfortunately he was badly affected by covid (developed persistent long covid symptoms) and I don't know if he has completely recovered.
Dohyon has rich parents who could afford his lawsuit against Pocketdol, and a chronic illness that justified his departure.
On September 3, 2024, Dohyon announced that he would be making his solo debut on September 6 with the digital single "19" under the stage name toni rei.

Pocketdol is 1 of the few smaller companies that's still active that's worse than wakeone IMHO.
It's so crazy that Dohyon was a trainee for only 5 months considering how talented he is. I used to get the umbrella mv as an ad all the time on yt back in 2020. It's a really good song.
