User Interview: December 2024

Hello and welcome back to our December (2024) edition of our monthly User Interview! This month, we'll be having an interview with the @Vampire. Our favorite community manager. We'll be learning more about them and all of their interests! With all that said, let's jump into our (slightly delayed) interview for December!

Q: Introduce Yourself.
Vampire: Hi, I'm Vampire! Most people call me either Vamp, Vampy/Vampie, or Vampu. I'm the Community Manager, part of the Musketeers Club, and I made the Hallyu+ Anime & Manga Club. (^^ゞ

Q: How did you learn about H+? Why did you join?

Vampire: I learned about H+ from either Saint Ren or AKID❀KI. I joined because I had only been on OneHallyu for a few months before it died, but in that time, I became friends with some people in the Musketeers Club, so I just eventually followed them to H+. I love discussion boards/forums!

Q: What is your favorite thing about H+?

Vampire: The fact that it's a forum is my favorite thing about it, honestly. They're a dying breed, but they feel so much more personable than someplace like Reddit or Twitter. That, and I love the activities/events/games we host, even if I can't always participate in as many as I'd like.

Q: If you could be another user for a day who’d you be and why?

Vampire: sm maid's answer to this question was perfect, but I don't want to steal from her, so I'll say Pandaa. Same concept, though—I would behave completely un-Pandaa-like. I've already caught a glimpse of something before… and it will never leave me.

Q: How did you come up with your username?

Vampire: Well, not really much to come up with, tbh; I'm just enamored with almost anything and everything related to the vampire ethos.

Q: Who’s your favorite PlusPal? And why?

Vampire: Magi, because he's a cute, little monkey!

Q: Who was your first bias & do you still bias them (and/or their group)?

Vampire: 4Minute's HyunA/Jiyoon () and SHINee's Taemin ().

Q: When did you get into kpop/Asian entertainment?

Vampire: 2011. Someone used 4Minute's "Hot Issue" in an AMV and I thought it was a bop! That's just K-Pop, though. I was watching and reading anime & manga much sooner, as well as listening to J-Pop/J-Rock.

Q: Who is your bias and bias group(s)?

Vampire: My ult groups and members are NCT (Taeyong, Jungwoo, Jaehyun), EXO (Baekhyun), SHINee (Taemin, Key), and TWICE (Nayeon).

Q. Favorite kpop/jpop/cpop mv?

Vampire: Taemin's MOVE and Sunmi's TAIL are a couple of my all-time favorite K-Pop MVs.




Here's some more recent MVs I really enjoyed, though; ENHYPEN's Brought the Heat Back, &TEAM's Firework, and Phantom Siita's Just Wanna xxxx With You. The last 2 are J-Pop!









Q. Favorite non-Asian artist?

Vampire: My Chemical Romance, Lady Gaga, and Fall Out Boy.

Q. Which section and/or thread do you spend the most time in (on H+)?

Vampire: The Union and Events sections. Then, depending on my free time and level of interest in recent happenings, the Anime & Manga and Gaming sections.

User/Specialized Questions

Q. What would be your dream event on H+? (asked by Llamabean)

Vampire: Hmm… Something like Chiharu's The Mystery of H+ Academy, again, or her Love Quest game, but done on a bigger scale? I don't know how difficult that'd be, tbh, but I like the idea of it! I'm a big fan of the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure/Choices Matter/Otome concepts, even though The Mystery of H+ Academy was more like, just following along with the story. It doesn't have to lean too much into the anime & manga or video gaming theme, either, but that'd be a bonus, in my book!

Q. Favorite country cuisine and favorite dish from it? (asked by bobo/Sweetheart)

Vampire: Italy! I don't know how silly this might sound, but I love a good, homemade, from-scratch spaghetti & meatballs. Well, the internet just told me it's Italian-American, so… but really, I love all sorts of pasta dishes!

Q. Which member is the most different from your first impression of them? (asked by Stannie)

Vampire: Honestly? Maybe Saint Ren. Initially, she seemed pretty mild (sdkjfgh), but then I couldn't tell if she liked me or not?? I wasn't totally sure how to approach or engage with her. Then, I have no idea what happened… but it felt like she just started saying crazier and crazier shit all the time. But like, it was awesome and we started getting along really well after that! I miss her. When I think about it, even THAT impression I have of her is slightly different from now, because I never would have guessed she would have ditched us for as long as she has.

Q. If you could only play one video game for the rest of your life, which one would it be? (Social Media Team question)

Vampire: Baldur's Gate 3! It's my new all-time favorite. I started and finished my first playthrough in early-to-mid 2024, but there's still so many different ways to play it! I did start a few other save files, but I haven't finished them yet. I was playing it on the PS5 before, but now that I have a new PC, I'm probably about to start a fresh, new character sometime in the near future.

Q. What's on your Pinterest page? What are your top 5 pictures? Give us the details! (asked by choively)

Vampire: Like, the first 5 pictures at the top that I see when I log on? Because I don't really upload anything myself, I just look at what content is already on Pinterest. Uh, so, it's fanart of Mahito from JUJUTSU KAISEN, fanart of Silco from Arcane, a gif of Padmé from Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, an official image of Rei Sakuma from Ensemble Stars, and a still image of a production of The Phantom of the Opera.

Q. Who is your favorite user? Top 5 would work too (asked by Llamabean)

Vampire: Really?

Q. Your top 5 favorite anime characters? If you could team up with them in a post-apocalyptic world, which of them would be able to guarantee your survival, and (of the five) who do you think would die first? (Social Media Team question)

Vampire: Light Yagami (Death Note) and Orochimaru (Naruto) will always be in the Top 5. I suppose I'll say Eren Yeager (Attack on Titan), Tooru Oikawa (Haikyuu!!), and Mahito (JUJUTSU KAISEN), too. Mahito isn't human, so I think he would survive… and he needs someone to listen to him yap wax philosophy, so if I play my cards right, maybe he'll let me live. Poor, poor Oikawa. He really doesn't belong in that group of characters. He'd probably be first to die.

Q. Hi Vampire, is your sibling also a fellow vampire? (asked by DivineSeoyeon)

Vampire: … Yes.

Q. Hi, Vampy! You've said in the past that you like Visual Kei. What aspect to you like the most about the sub-culture, and what acts would you recommend to someone interested in the genre? (Social Media Team question)

Vampire: I love the aesthetics and the way a lot of the music sounds "dramatic," if that makes sense. The cool thing about Visual Kei is that it's called that more for its presentation rather than adhering to a strict way of sound, so I definitely think there's more options out there than what some might expect. BUCK-TICK was one of the groups that began the movement and are my favorite. Their album Seventh Heaven has songs on it that very much remind me of The Cure, whereas their album Kurutta Taiyou, sounds more industrial. I think "technically" ALI PROJECT isn't Visual Kei, but there's a ton of overlap, so I would recommend them anyway if you like the idea of a "weird" female vocalist with, like, a baroque pop/neoclassical darkwave discography.

Q. Which user do you feel is different from you yet you still get along well? Which user are you close with online but don't think would get along with in real life (ya'll asked for spicy hehe)? (asked by Stannie)

Vampire: It's recently come to my attention that yongfilms is perhaps a good answer for your first question! There was a funny conversation about it, even. He thought I called him a furry as a result. Anyway, uh… For the latter, well, I'm a lot more indecent in real life… Is there a chance you would still like me, then, Stannie?

Forums have always been the superior social space of the internet imo. It really is a shame they're dying off and a big reason I'm back into k-pop now is having H+ to share. Thank you, @Vampire for the role you play in keeping the forum space from going extinct!

I heard so many got into K-pop around that time, at the end of the 2000's/early 2010's, overtaking J-pop/J-rock/Visual Kei.

I was also introduced to this world by 4minute, and biased Jiyoon Good times.

Her solo stuff as Jenyer was actually really good. She's now the vocalist of PRSNT, a band seemingly nobody has heard of.

literally Spaghetti lol... but also Tagliatelle, Pappardelle, and Orecchiette!

Mostly! I still need to give the winter release they just had a listen. My favorite song is a tie between Just Wanna xxxx With You and Devilish Girl!

Girl, 4 out of the 5 characters I named have all backstabbed and murdered people. It's looking bleak for me regardless!
