-If Yes, consider stanning but don't stan yet
-If no, Don't Stan

4. Second Song is released? if it good?
-If Yes, Consider stanning
-If no, Don't Stan

5. New song released and I realize i missed a certain member's talent/visual/personality?
-If better than i initially thought, Consider stanning
-If no, Don't Stan

repeat steps 4 and 5 every single comeback



For a single idol. I can stan anything. Talent, Visual, Personality.

I think I am naturally attracted to SM groups, but the company has nothing to do with it, it's the music that gets my attention


Survival groups are a no for me. I get bored easily, so I can't keep up with a survival show for too long.

I actually got into them through one of their performances at the 2018 year-end festivals rather than the traditional way of listening to their music. It was just a coincidence that I liked their music and visuals too. I actually had no idea that Meixuan were a part of WJSN while initially getting into them as I hadn't watched CZ101 until after I got into the group.

WAYV:
Someone recc'd me their variety show and I got into them via their personalities. Their music was also great!

SNH48:
Lu Ting is in SNH48, therefore I have to stan!

BTS:
I got into them via a video-log in 2014 iirc, so it was first and foremost their personalities that got me interested. They also happen to make good music as well!

SiS:

I like those who are enticing. i prefer visual, but i dont think its the end all be all if i like their energy, not every person i find pretty, i end up stanning. personality is good to have, i have to vibe with my bias.

I do like vocals, dance, good rap. but as long as i like their songs, whatever. If i like their tone and i dont think they look terrible dancing, im happy

music usually is a dealbreaker cause it just frustrates me if my biases' music sound like shit. Tho there are a few exceptions, like survival show groups that i always end up getting into. I go in with the expectation of not liking the music since i rarely like the songs save for a couple, so i just enjoy the members as they are since they're only for a short time..

i dont look for any specific thing really, i just wanna feel impressed by their efforts, enjoy their songs, and like their overall image, whatever that may be. if it works, it works

Im simple. For boy groups i tend to favor self composing groups, really has nothing to do with it i just tend to gravitate towards them.

Since everyone responded with such detail and truthiness I will try and give some form to the mess of what I look for lmao.

I guess the easy way to say it is that I look for in a group a combination of things: talent and personality and chemistry

Usually I look for SNSD thats the kind of girl group I like a lot of members doing interesting choreo with good vocal line and wide array of concepts

I am usually attracted to groups with larger number 7+ and stan WJSN a 13 member group so I have been more interested in more members for a while.

Vocals- simply put I will have almost no interest in a group with poor or average vocals. I want something like Taengsic with strong main vocal anothe, quality main vocal and capable and quality leads and subvocals, WJSN goes even further having half the group be vocal line and the rest capable.

Dancing I care more about group choreo and capability than I do personal dance skill. I really like Loona, WJSN, Izone choreo the numbers make things really enjoyable to watch. I can get bored with 4 or 5 member choreo.

Rap - if its there it has to be good enough for me to not cringe all the time lol

Concept - I'm not into "Im a bad girl" concept anymore I've lost interest lmao. I will always like fairy/space/fantasy girl group concepts because they are magical lmao. I really enjoy they way gfriend, loona, WJSN can make things have some kinda continuity through their aesthetic and music. Plus I like pretty mvs like Secret

Versatility - You can't just do one thing for 7+ years right? All of them change eventually. Do they have to go from one extreme to the other? No but I like groups that are capable of many types of styles and can pull them off well. Eventually you can lose interest in the same thing for years lol.

However the reason I STAN certain groups is how they sound and perform together

For example: the way wjsn will go Dawon singing then Seolas part and then Yeonjungs high note for their bridge is very excellent in my ears and something that is unique to WJSN. Just like Taengsic for SNSD or other combos in Exo SHINee Dreamcatcher etc.

Beyond just having vocals, dance, rap, concept and versatility they have to have that kind of chemistry that makes them more than good. They have to be special or have the potential. For me with WJSN, that happened as soon as I saw Secret performances, just perfect to me. The Dream Come True Comeback was everything for me lmao. With SNSD they were always special. Imo you can tell but not everyone will feel special means the same lmao but that's kind of how I think about it

edit: I forgot to mention that its also important for me to fully stan a group for them to be entertaining enough lmao. WJSN DC loona SNSD Apink are all pretty fun to me, not every group has oppurtunity to show that but some are just better at that than others and ones I mentioned are quite hilarious lmao

As long as I like the songs I don't mind the vocals, rapping or dance. I'm not that into amazing vocals even of I could be impressed by great performances but I don't care if the group can write and compose songs and create their own choreographies. Overrall I prefer to have songs I like. That's only for the "artistic" part.

To be honest : the visuals are really important and plays a big part for me, it wil attract my attention faster than light. You will then tell me that in K-pop the visual standards are already high and you are right. That's why I'm getting overwhelmed being a multi GG stan but some groups have more members' visual I like. For example in my case : fromis_9, Lovelyz and Dreamnote. Three groups where I almost like all members visual but I don't follow all three the same way. F9 is one of my top 3 groups so I watch as much as I can. Lovelyz is the next tier I watch if it had ENG subs and Dreamnote they don't have anything in ENG (or very few contents with subs) but I keep following and watching them times to times only because this group had every visuals I personally like.

Third and final point : ENGLISH SUBS (and contents). You want me to follow closely and stan better a group ? You better have eng subs. I would not been a Flover (or not as dedicated as I wanted) without OTR and without from_US SUBS team who worked hard to gave ENG subs.
That's why Rocket Punch easily got into my favorite groups and that's why I don't follow closer other groups because they lack in one of those criterias.

To sum up my three points : songs, visuals and ENG subs

I'll add a 4th point : have a stable lineup. I'll give three examples : Saturday, Busters and Nature.
Saturday went through many changes. They started with 7 members, 4 left and 2 were added in only a year. But it seems that they will finally stick with the current lineup with 5 members and had two OT5 comebacks (soon a third comeback if it's funded). Keep it like that and I'll be okay.
Nature never had a comeback with the same lineup in 2 years, soon 3, because of a member leaving, a member being injured or one being gone on hiatus. As far as I know I still don't know if Saebom, Loha and Aurora will return, or any updates about their situation. It could be difficult to stan.
Busters, it's a whole mess. I really liked the Pinky Promise lineup but since that era all of them left, leaving the three new remaining members. So I stopped following them.

• What style ?

Any style, it could be sexy, cute, girl crush, EDM, rock, metal, weird, etc as long as they follow my points.

• Would you stan a group because of a company or popularity ? Do you prefer underappreciated or nugu groups ?

Being part of a big company or being a popular group have one pro at least : they will probably last until the end of their contract, so 7 years. You don't have to worry unlike this small or nugu group who can disappear after one or two comebacks or one or two years.
Regardless of the company or the popularity it doesn't change anything for me, I'll keep the same three points I explained earlier. However I tend to follow underappreciated or nugu groups because I know popular groups or groups from famous labels will do okay, they have thousands of dedicated fans so I don't have to worry about them. I rather show my support to those who have less.

Oh my, I don't even know where to start. It's different for every group.

I have the ones I stan, the ones I really like and the ones I casually like. They can be anything, from BTS to small nugu groups that have like 15k views.

Reasons why I became at least interested in becoming a casual fan or more vary. I will write down for some of 'my' groups.

-No idea who they were, but great debut song and now I'm getting into them (usually this is groups who are somewhere between nugu and midtier)
-They were fun at a variety show or interview so I checked them out
-They gave a great show at an awards show
-I felt sorry for them because they have so few views and then started liking them
-They tackled some social issue that I agree with
-They are the little sisters/brothers of a group I stan
-Someone nice online recommended them to me
-I keep hearing about their storylines and lore, so I got curious (this is obviously Loona)
-Watching Queendom
-They were really nice about a group I stan
