Mr. Trot has become the most watched music show in the last 20 years of Korean history.
Lim Youngung has become the Kang Daniel of older K-O-R-E-A-N-S. He was born in 1991 (supposedly - who knows the truth), so he is reasonably young as well.
However the real winner of that show was an established trot singer, Jin Sung, who is said to be born in 1990. As a judge in that show, and in other programs gearing for older audiences and focusing on trot, he showed he was a good talker and his reputation rose high enough to probably put him in the top 10 of the Gallup listings.
One of the contestants, Yongtak, was a balladist singing in the style of Wheesung, but when it didn't go anywhere, he turned into trot. He is capable of writing his own songs, so it is likely that his songs would become more popular among the older pop.
All of these, plus last year's winner Song Gain and established trot singers Jang Yunjung and Hong Jinyoung, will strengthen the gerontology of KPop as the younger generations are stuck in Korea and older generations have more exposures.
It does not help that KPop's Senior Singer is now flexing her muscles to return in probably around May. KPop's Senior singer, who now turns 27 in this year but is considered to be Senior since she had received the Lifetime Achievement Award, appears to think that just receiving the filial duty of younger singers is not enough since if that continues the younger generations will really think she is old and put her in the back burner.
The KPop acts already have their hands full trying to deal with the Trottists, who will be even stronger this year. Just in time when KPop's Senior Singer is flexing her muscles to reestablish gerontocracy over KPop, so only older singers would get respect and younger singers would be on the mercy of the senior singers.
As long as Korea is still believing in Filial Duty (basically the parents, or an older person if applicable, have power over the younger generation) the older singers trying to reestablish gerontocracy in Korean Pop will never end.

You know, I've been ignoring your messages and having put them down as bizarre. But at times like this, we really don't need your absurd trolling of IU. I don't know who you are or what you're about, but please give it a rest for all our sakes. Thanks.

I immediately regretted clicking the "show ignored content" link.
