^ supposedly committed by his fans bc of risqué RPF fan-works that included the actor against both ao3 and Lofter being reported to the Chinese Government
damn, this sucks for Chinese fan works, ao3 was pretty popular...

ao3 got blocked? Damn, it was like the one western site I could access over there without having to use a VPN. I’m more surprised that it took them that long to block it.

yep, my tl was up in arms ab it this morning with half of them saying that XZ fans were in the wrong and the other half saying they did nothing wrong lol, I'm somewhere in the middle, where I think that a concentrated group probs brigaded the govt causing them to block it ahead of schedule.
I just feel sorry for the Chinese fans who don't have access to the site now, one of my main fandoms has a large number of Chinese works on the site, which I'm expecting to be substantially cut now that ao3 is no longer available...

What is ao3 ?
Archive of our own, basically a fan-fiction website with very little regulations, so you can post things that may likely be taken down elsewhere, such as dark fics, abuse etc. though most of the content usually isn't like that (that's just the borderline stuff tbh), they have a very extensive tagging system that helps people filter out these options if they want to
AO3 is everything that the CCP hates and it still baffles me that it wasn’t blocked several years ago?? It’s not surprising to hear about this at all but it’s definitely really sad because it’s just another way for the CCP to limit creative expression.yep, my tl was up in arms ab it this morning with half of them saying that XZ fans were in the wrong and the other half saying they did nothing wrong lol, I'm somewhere in the middle, where I think that a concentrated group probs brigaded the govt causing them to block it ahead of schedule.

Most VPNs also don’t even work there anymore.. A few years ago, you could find a random free one on the appstore and it’ll most likely work but now you have to find a good paid one and not to mention, VPNs aren’t even on the Chinese appstores anymore so it’ll be a real struggle for Chinese fans to access the site again.
