IMO people/companies etc. copyright things/songs all the time. doesn't necessarily mean that it will be released as a studio version.
It only means that they want to copyright it probably so it doesn't get used or stolen without permission. Like lets say Marvel decides to use Menagerie in their movie. SM has protected that song being made for profit or claimed by Marvel.
