I don't plan on speaking on NewJeans/MHJ, since I'm torn re: their (NJ) situation. However, this sets a horrible precedent:

Additionally, it was also just announced that the trial for Hanni’s workplace bullying case has reached a verdict.

The court’s have concluded that Hanni’s situation does not constitute workplace bullying due to the nature of her contract.

Essentially, no idols/trainees contracted to any label in Korea can claim workplace bullying/harassment in any future incident. So idols that legitimately undergo harassment at their labels (see: OMEGA X, the Open World Entertainment case) will essentially have to come forward as whistleblowers or pursue a different avenue for legal complaints to see any kind of justice in the future.

Something I just want to chime in:

I think one of the biggest issues in this bullying case was that in the end, Hanni wasn’t actually ignored. The manager told illit to ignore her, but there’s literally cctv that illit still bowed to her anyway both times in the hallway.

I think being ignored can count as being bullied, I know how it feels to be ostracized and it hurts.

I just think this argument was hard to fight because she’s complaining that illit was told to ignore her but illit seemingly didn’t ignore her.

I think the manager who is an authority figure saying it counts whether illit bowed or not. We only have hybe's word for that. The members of illit have not been asked whether they did as far as I understand. We have not seen nor can we legally see any tapes that exist of the incident due to Korean law. The manager is the one in charge of them and a representative of hybe as a contracted employee making a public statement to not bow.

The National Assembly discussed whether the law covered this and ador's current ceo said at the hearing that artists have no protection against being harassed.

So hybe was aware prior to this they were allowed to harass/bully njs members without legal repercussions as the rules don't apply to them as they don't to any of the artists under hybe or any kpop company for that matter.

I feel like a moving goalpost is a moving goalpost, if I'm being honest. This doesn't even dispute my point. As a genuine third part who could give fuck all about New Jeans or Illit, I find this situation very strange.


That's fair.

I do want to say one final thing on this (I can't lie, I think I've lost interest.) I think there is an underlying issue here that highlights some really messed up power dynamics. However, it is not just with the companies but with the fans/public as well.

So it's two bad news for them, Hanni's case then MHJ who resigned. NewJeans future is getting more and more incertain at this point. If they and their family have anything to show to help their case, it's now or never.

Even if MHJ isn't a saint, HYBE is still the bigger "evil", as the scale is on another level. But overrall everyone in charge failed that's why the situation is in this current state, sadly. And those who gets hate are the artists, especially LS, ILLIT and of course NJ.

As for the bullying case, I don't know if they had enough solide evidences. But since Hanni's lost her case.
It is possible they got a "passive, indirect" treatment, like being ignored, not being able to work properly, being outcasted, have your food or stuffs stolen, doing "useless" tasks, etc." It can be quite common in working environment, not only in K-pop. Regardless, it's still very toxic and it impact the moral, the mental health.
It's not those more direct actions like verbal and physical abuse, having an unsanitary dorm, forced diet, being overworked, etc. Things we can see in smaller companies. I hope they didn't experience it.

Regardless, NewJean's IP is still under HYBE's so if they want to leave they'll probably have to pay a huge amount of money, probably more than 50-50, then they'll have to rebrand.

It's probably not the end, I'll see what MHJ, NJ and the fandom will do as next move.

An idol contract doesn't give you as much protection as any other worker or employee !? That's an quite big issue if I speak. NewJeans are "fortunate" to be one of the top idol groups so they don't suffer as much, they have other issues anyway, but think about all those less known ones...

Not exactly. He had an hour a day usage during designated rest periods and could easily have preset a text message(something I have done myself) to be sent at a later time. The military won't say whether or not he has communicated with her specifically.
So though I genuinely dislike it can't be guaranteed with certainty she was lying.

May I add something as someone who served in the military


Free personal time does not necessary really mean free personal time. It is actually a time you are expected to do area cleaning in preparation for roll-call. And there are a lot of things to do beside just area cleaning, you have to make use of the time to wash your laundry, iron it, polish your boots and it is really time consuming. Sometime an hour isn't enough. So unless, they are really close, I doubt MHJ's claims.
