Nintendo on May 7 released its yearly earnings report to investors, giving everyone an idea of how well the company has faired over the last year – spoiler alert, very well! While there were interesting tidbits of information in the report, the most highlighted was the overwhelming success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, especially compared to the earlier entries in the Animal Crossing series.
Usually, in these end of year reports, all the sales figures are up to (and including) March 31 – which is the end of the Japanese fiscal year. Not only did Nintendo highlight the success of New Horizons in its first 11 days on sales (March 20 - March 31), the report showed the first 6 weeks of sales information, up to April 30.
Directly from Nintendo's fiscal report
In the first 11 days on sale, Animal Crossing: New Horizons managed to sell 11.77 million copies, making it the 7th best selling Nintendo Switch game of all time, just under Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. Though, as the above image from Nintendo shows, in the first 6 weeks of sale, Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold a whopping 13.41 million copies, outselling every other Animal Crossing game's lifetime sales, and becoming the 6th highest selling game on the Nintendo Switch. For a quick comparison, what Animal Crossing: New Leaf (and Welcome Amiibo) sold in 8 years, New Horizons sold in just 6 weeks. That's a lot of bells.
Nintendo's report, as well as an article from gamesindustry.biz, also highlighted that Animal Crossing's mobile game, Pocket Camp, has seen a knock-on effect since the release of New Horizons, giving the mobile game a massive increase in players. Nintendo reports that the game has seen a "large increase in active players" while gamesindustry.biz reports that downloads for the mobile game were 10x higher in March, and 15x higher in April.

Not surprising especially considering how they nailed the timing of releasing this. Still need to get my hands on a Switch!
