I finished listening to the A-LIST songs and from what I can see, it seems that the majority of the songs were released by 2nd to early 3rd gen K-pop artists, some a decade ago. We have some familiar choices, such as TWICE and EXO — the former in particular appears three times — and we also have six and five songs that were released under SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment respectively, which rather highlights that songs released from these companies are a popular choice. We also have some lesser-known groups (although they are known in South Korea) who I must say am surprised to see because some of them do have a solid discography that I think is worth checking out.

I have now finished listening to the songs in the "NUGU" playlist, which has more songs released by artists who have debuted more recently, whereas there were only two 4th generation groups in the "A-LIST" playlist.

Aside from stating the obvious, personally I find the "NUGU" playlist to be more interesting than the "A-LIST" playlist, for a number of reasons. Firstly, many songs here are released by artists who did not go on to achieve a music show win, though they may have won other awards. Secondly, there are two covers here, whereas the other playlist had none; and thirdly, there is one song I can identify which is a remake of a popular K-pop song. And, I'll also just mention that some songs contain the voices of those who could be argued to be in the A-list because they have already received acknowledgment for their contributions, either for themselves or with associated groups.

Just checking, I noticed for Battle #1 on the "Nugu Battles" there were 10 votes altogether, whereas every other battle had 11 votes. I had wanted to know if someone had forgetten to cast their vote on that specific battle. Of course, I know it makes no difference because there already was a clear winner for that particular battle.

Also, I see 12 votes on Battles #10 and #12. My understanding is that you could vote on the form even if you were not participating, but that would also mean that you wouldn't be receiving participation points for it. So, would I right to assume that there was a non-participant who cast their votes for those battles?

On Battle #1, someone didn't vote for that particular battle.
On Battle #10, someone was unfortunate to get both of their songs battling each other, that's why it has 1 extra vote

Some general thoughts about Round #1:

• Some solid song choices across both playlists, and I also voted for songs that lost either by a small or large margin.
• As I mentioned before, to start with, the A-List playlist already had more songs released from SM and JYP Entertainment respectively, and while I don't see that as being a particularly bad thing, it's become more apparent for the songs voted and that progressed.
• Further, looking back, judging by the votes, I'm not sure if it was sensible to have battles between soloists and groups — for example, in Battles #4 and #6 — though, it is is what it is as the winners have already been chosen.
• Also, I noticed Christmas-themed songs across both playlists, especially in the "NUGU" playlist, which is not surprising given that, in the Northern Hemisphere, Christmas is generally celebrated during winter. But, I must admit that while they are safe choices, I personally find it quite generic considering that it is only one event that happens during the season. (And "winter" can mean different things to different people, especially to those who are living in other countries around the world where it is not winter at this time.)
• I'm a little surprised about the ties for Battles #7 and #8 especially since all of the songs listed here, except TWICE, are all B-sides.
• I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say this, but I didn't downvote any songs in this first round. So, I might consider doing it for subsequent rounds, starting now I guess if it helps to make clearer the winners for each battle.

I think christmas music is just very characteristic, while "winter" music is not really a thing? even though I'm from the south hemisphere I still link christmas and winter cause winter in my country is nothing special at all just a season like any other since we don't even get snow or anything (in my state)

You do make a good point about a link between Christmas releases and winter. I would clarify, though, that some music genres were commonly heard during particular seasons, at least in K-pop or more so Korean music, previously.

For me personally, I sometimes would associate "winter" with "schmaltzy" music — which might sound like a pejorative label to some, but I really mean no offense when I describe it as that — that is, ballads, R&B, sometimes both; but, of course, you'd still have pop songs because sometimes listeners just want to have fun and slow music isn't necessarily for everyone. But yes, "winter music" would be tough to define as it does not apply universally.

I do agree that "winter music" as a label can be very subjective, but I do think that it supports my point, which is that "winter music" can deviate from the Christmas or holiday season. At least for me, I think it can sometimes be important to evaluate any aspects relevant to the release, such as the lyrics, production, music videos — if they have one — how the song has been marketed, and the overall moods and emotions that it would elicit in listeners like myself, before deciding whether any song can be identified as such. But it might not be necessary either, at least not for this game, because I like to imagine that most players here probably only wanted to share songs they liked and didn't want to think too hard at least in terms of deciding whether it really could be considered as a winter release, and I respect that choice.
