Preview released of SM’s new Trot Kpop group

SM is currently debuting a new Trot boy group called “MYTRO”

The members include:
- Former Mr.Mr member and Mr. Trot 2 contestant Tey
- Former Mr. Trot 2 contestant Im Chaepyeong
- Child actor Seo Woohyuk
- Actor Jung Yoonjae
- Former NCT trainee Shohei

A lot of people online seem to be receiving the lineup well. They are happy to see older people debuting, and happy to see former idols/actors getting a chance to redebut (something SM’s never really done before).

The group has been getting praised for their vocals and people online seem to be interested in this new genre of Kpop they will bring.

I think trot is getting big again as the population of Korea is swiftly aging. I have followed trot artists since I found Kpop and most of the hybrid Kpop/trot groups have been women(LPG, Aurora, MINIMANI) though Super Junior had subunit. Good for these gentlemen. Almost every weekend there are large scale trot concerts around Korea with artists that are aged from teens to seasoned professionals of many years. Kpop fans who focus very narrowly are missing the vast majority of Korean music which encompasses multiple genres. I wish them success.

I've not been that impressed with SM's trot offerings lately (mostly former suju Sungmin) and I feel like the smaller agencies always do trot better than the big pop labels, but maybe they were saving some of the better songs for this group.
