Yikes, I'm not really a geography buff or come from a place that has extreme weather, this sounds bad...is it?

6.8 is a pretty strong quake, but the damage depends on the distance to the quake epicentre, the infrastructure (in this regard, Japan is well-prepared), how many people live in the area (this is a remote area of Japan) and the geology of the area. In this case I assume the biggest risk is of a tsunami, since it hit off the coast, and the quake wasn't enormous (unlike the 2011 disaster, which started with a magnitude approx 9.1 earthquake.Yikes, I'm not really a geography buff or come from a place that has extreme weather, this sounds bad...is it?
The east coast of Japan was hit in 2011, yes. Japan is very prone to earthquakes.Damn... this just happened? I think they got hit last time too.
But last year Indonesia was hit by an earthquake that was quite a bit bigger than the one that hit Japan today, so it's not just limited to them.
