EDITORIAL The evolution of NCT Dream: is there a future for the sub-unit?

I feel like any new Dream members are always going to be compared to the original lineup and it will be hard for them to shed off the image of 7DREAM.

I don’t think the fandom will hate on them especially snice they’re going to be so young and most people know that there’s a line you shouldn’t cross when dealing with teen idols. Imo, they will have it much harder than Hendery, Yangyang and Xiaojun since they weren’t added to an unit that had a pre-existing lineup.

Yeah I agree, I don't think anyone will hate on them but they have a much harder hill to climb than Hendery / Yang and Xiaojun. These boys are effectively replacing 7Dream and fans aren't going to be as enthusiastic as they could be, especially if the original line up have no clear future

The graduation system? Yes technically, but with the way 127 has always been adding, and now removing members, they might as well be considered as having one too

True but that is a very risky system, the idea may be good that you add members that fit well with the given concept, but its also confusing since we are talking about 18+ members, and it seem like more will come.
The group was working pretty good for a reason, instead of going with that, sm choices to use their brain which is also a bad idea.... its like this.....

sm staff: good news NCT dream is doing very well and got their first win, what do we do next?
sm: remove some of the members, yep that is the best move!

Well regarding your last point there was no reason for SM to care about their music show wins especially since they were not the result of a hit song. And though Dream perform better than 127 digitally, much like 127 they don't have anything close to a hit song. Dream also didn't start outselling 127 until this year so it's only just this year when most of the og dream members are already set to graduate that sm would have a substantial finacial incentive (which is all they care about) to reevaluate Dream's system, but 7dream would never work because they placed two members in 127 from the jump, so at best sm can only keep 5 Dream members together for a permanent group, but at the end of the day they most likely won’t even do that.
Sorry I ended up rambling for no reason.
