There is a big crackdown by the Chinese government on celebrity and fan culture going on right now. It's a huge news in the Chinese entertainment industry. One of the most popular Chinese actress Zhao Wei disappeared overnight (like Jack Ma, Alibaba founder & chairman).

There's a reason why Chinese idols, and even non-Chinese celebs who want to earn money in China, pledge their support to the CCP government.

This probably would somewhat affect k-pop, as fanbase fund collection is banned, so no more bulk buying albums unless done secretly. Online fan communities are also required to be registered with the celebrity's management agency, and the company will be held responsible for fan behaviour (e.g. if fanwar, the company will be punished). I saw one of DC's Chinese fansite Morpheus has reached out to DCC for this registration. Morpheus is also deleting old Weibo posts or content that can become evidence that they are an idol fansite.

And earlier, Chinese major streaming networks will stop producing idol survival shows (RIP YWY/QCYN and Chuang).

Other than celebrities, the Chinese government is also cracking down on tech businesses (e.g. Ant Group, Tencent) and education (academic tuition/private tutoring centres).

Hmmm, did it maybe have something to do with the publishing/promotions deal they had for Japan? Did they still operate as HF in that market or something?
