Girl Band Index
so there are tons of cool girls band that i know about and that i would love to share with other people but is very time consuming to keep multiple threads updated so i decided to create a "general" girl band thread, the idea is to share interesting news or releases of active girl bands in the scene, it doesn't matter if they are an upcoming act or established artists
here i plan to create a "mini thread" for each band, basically just the OP post, they are going to be added to an index in the first and second posts, maybe share some profiles about them, songs, thoughts, etc also since many of them don't have pages on the Jpop fandom wiki these could be used as a base for their articles, each week a band is going to be put on the title, the intention is for it to become some sort of spotlight feature so people can check their stuff and discover new bands
also feel free to comment about any girl band you know or want to know about
anyway i have a really good one to start the thread with! I've been aware of this band since last year but never posted about them because there wasn't much out there but lately we got some really good news from the band, they are the girls in the first picture (edit: i was talking about Last Lamp who were the first band featured)
(thread starts in post 3)

#1: Last Lamp
Last Lamp (ラストランプ) are a 4 member girl band from Tokyo, they debuted in January of 2022, in January of 2023 they released their first mini album "Orange" and held their first concert, between May, June and July of this year the band are holding a 3 month consecutive single project and in August they are going to release their first music video
the members are:
Ayaki - Vocalist
the members are:
Ayaki - Vocalist
they haven't released any MV yet (other than a lyric video) but they held their debut showcase a few months ago and uploaded the performances to their Youtube channel, they are really good! so far my favorite is "Haru Omoi" (春想い)
is impossible to watch this performance and not expect good things from them
there are multiple performances in their channel, all the songs they have shared are good
and there are two recorded songs out there
so yeah they are a band to keep your eye on, i found their spotify but is still empty, hopefully now that they are releasing multiple songs they finally make them available for streaming
also next month their first MV

also seems Ayaki was the vocalist of the girl band "Ganbare! Victory" (がんばれ!Victory) which was signed to PONY CANYON, they disbanded in 2017, after that she became a solo singer and it wasn't until 2021 / 2022 that she along the other girls decided to create Last Lamp
worth mention that only Ayaki was a member, none of the other members of Last Lamp are related to Ganbare! Victory
i'm not familiar with them but that's nice, Ganbare! Victory has some MVs out there and their concept was... baseball?

i think Fridays would be a good day to update the thread with new bands, also it would be interesting doing something similar with indie idols on another thread
so Chakura are on the top of my list for bands to add to this thread but i still have some stuff to look about them since in their case i do want to make sure they get Wiki pages so that is going to be later, for now i already have a pick for this week
unrelated to that but SHISHAMO released a new MV
and Tokyo Syoki Syodo
also The tiva

#2: School Girls End
School Girls End (スクールガールズエンド) is a 3 member girl band from Osaka, the band was founded on March of 2021 but didn't started activities until 2022
despite what the name may lead you to believe the members aren't currently in high school, the reason why they picked the name was because the group was formed during the pandemic years and thus all members had some regrets of not having been able to enjoy their high school days the way they wanted, the idea behind the name is reaffirming that those days are over and that they are now moving forward
the members are:
Asayake Yuuna - Vocalist, Guitar

Atsuko ゠ D ゠ Garçon - Bass

so they are a recent debut, they started activities just last year and only have a couple of releases so far but what they have out there is pretty good
one of my favorite songs of 2023 is "Sazanka" by them, is incredible to think some girls that just graduated from high school thought to themselves "hey, let's start a band" and 1 year they are already writing and composing music at this level
another song worth checking is "Laika", it was inspired by the first dog in space
the band already released two EPs, one in the later part of 2021 and another one in 2022, "Sazanka" was actually written not much after the group was created but the MV was recorded until this year
thankfully the band has been quick to put their stuff on Spotify and other sites so their discography is pretty accessible
their first EP "proof of existence"
their 2nd EP "narrow daydream"
one of the band's goals for this year is to release 4 singles, one for each season of the year, looking forward to that specially if they are as good as their first two

i think i like the format of the new post better than last week's so i probably going to update Last Lamp's post later
follow up to the post above
recently School Girls End released a new EP as part of their seasons project
a live performance
there are some live streams of the band in their channel
the vocalist Yuuna has a cover channel (although it hasn't been updated since the band started activities)
cute fan art of the members
also the reason why they are a 3 member group now is because Kuyo graduated from the band in March of this year due personal reasons but seems she is still in good terms with the other members
she started a solo project not much ago, basically a Vocaliod kind of thing
and that's it for now

#3: Lucie,Too
Lucie,Too (ルーシートゥー) is a 2 member girl band from Utsunomiya, Japan, the band was founded in 2016 and debuted in 2017, Lucie,Too's name was inspired by the song "Lucie Too" by the American Rock "Now, Now"
i'm trying to use the official group and members photos for the posts but since the Lucie,Too members don't post individual promotional pictures this one is going to be a little different
Chisa - Vocalist, Guitar
Chisa's Twitter
Hikari - Bass
Hikari's Twitter
Hikari's Instagram
former:
Kanako - Bass (left in 2020)
かなこ
Naho - Drums (left in 2021)
ナホ
Lucie,Too are really good, i'm not exactly sure how to classify their music (Garage Rock?) but they are reminiscence of those Western indie bands you would heard on the radio during the early 2010s, the band was founded by Chisa and Kanako with Naho joining them not much later, the pandemic era resulted in two of the members retiring from the group and on Hikari joining in Kanako's place, despite her being the newest member i feel that Hikari is now an irreplaceable part of the group too, really both eras of the band are worth checking
also is notable that currently they don't have a permanent drummer, i'm not sure if they are going to recruit someone in the future but most likely not, they have many friends in the scene so getting help to record their music or to play in a concert isn't an issue, also for a Japanese indie act they seem to have a pretty decent international following, the band has held activities in South Korea (for example they were part of the line up of "DMZ PEACE TRAIN MUSIC Festival" in 2019), North America and Europe, the later which they toured just a few months ago
some early releases
although personally i like the current era better, but again both are pretty good
my favorite release by them is their album "Fool" which i feel is a good starting point to get to know the band

here some live performances
also Hikari is a member of the band Catfood Salmons
so Lucie,Too definitely takes inspiration from Western underground / indie Rock, not surprising since Chisa who is the main songwriter is a huge fan of that music, i mean their name was inspired by a Now,Now's song

#4: Conton Candy
Conton Candy (コントンキャンディ) is a 3 member girl band from Tokyo, the group was formed in 2018 but starting in 2020 (and due to the pandemic) the band went on hiatus until the later part of 2021, some of the changes during this period of time was that the original vocalist Ririmochi left the band and Guitarrist Tsumugi took her place in vocals, not much after the announcement of their return the band released their debut "PURE" and have been pretty active ever since
Conton Candy are pretty popular in the indie and underground rock scene but recently the band also gained mainstream popularity after their song "Fuzzy Navel" went viral on Tiktok (more on that later) that's has gotten the band a lot of attention from the general public
as with the band above the members don't post individual pictures so i posted a previous group photo, i've been following this band for a while so there is a lot to say about them

i know about Conton Candy since 2020 or so (i recall reading the announcement of their hiatus during the pandemic) it felt like a let down when it was announced that they were going on hiatus since they were a really promising band and as you know 99% of the time an indefinite hiatus is double speak for disbandment but thankfully in their case it really was a hiatus, just 1 year later the band came back and started producing and releasing music non stop, they are a pretty active band and are always busy working on new songs which is nice, definitely a band to keep an eye on
i did some threads about them before their debut
"Conton Candy" unveils details of their debut EP「PURE」
Tracklist 1.102号室 2.ディープレッドタルト 3.ロングスカートは靡いて 4.音の鳴る方へ 5.milk unfortunately, while the original release date was September 15th for various reasons the release got pushed to the later of this year for the entire year of 2021 they have been topping the Eggs.mu daily artists chart (site...

about their debut song which btw is pretty good

cute song and video, i feel that its a really good debut, definitely looking forward to their 1st EP! in general the 2nd half of 2021 its turning to be great for girl bands btw the band started a Spotify! the song is also out in digital stores their debut EP "PURE" goes out later this...

their 2nd EP "Angel" (which they misspelled as "Angle")
"Conton Candy" announces their 2nd single "Angel" (mistyped as "Angle") out in July 27!
in the announcement tweet they mistyped "Angel" as "Angle", not gonna lie is a little disappointing how that was just a typo :doge: some character development for the character in the cover! she was originally featured in the cover of their debut single "PURE", since then she cut her hair and...
hallyuplus.net
and more, i believe i've have done about 10+ threads or more about them
their whole discography is great, cute band and they write and compose all their songs, also want to bring attention to "Fuzzy Navel", the song went viral on J-SNS and has gotten the group a lot of attention
PV - Conton Candy - Fuzzy Navel
hallyuplus.net
keep in mind that they are still an indie band so getting 1 million+ Spotify listeners and almost 10m views on the MV is pretty damn good, really nice to see a talented group get recognized
and check their stuff!
more MVs
live performances

if you are curious about Ririmochi there were videos and performances of their songs with her but after she left and Tsumugi became the vocalist they took them down which makes sense since it would be confusing for new fans
my personal opinion is that the current version of the band is the best version, Tsumugi is a really good singer and i would say that she is even better than Ririmochi, so the current dynamic works pretty well
also there were rumors about what happened to Ririmochi, some people even were saying that she passed away but that is just people speculating, seems they parted on good terms and that she simply didn't wanted to continue with a career in music, if you are curious about how her voice sounds like the girl from the band 35.7 sounds almost exactly like Ririmochi's (although they are different people)
(this song is also super good and the band are also worth checking)
when i posted the thread for that song last year i even commented this so yeah, pretty similar

her voice reminds me of Ririmochi who was the first vocalist of "Conton Candy" (but i don't think it's her?)

"going to try to update every Friday"
>hasn't updated in 3 Fridays
btw SCANDAL got a Guinness record for the longest running girl band with the same line up
there is more information on the SCANDAL thread
the only reason this thread exist is because of them, they aren't just a girl band but they are THE GIRL BAND
speaking of SCANDAL I've been a fan since almost 10 years, the first time i heard about them was either in late 2013 or early 2014, hopefully in 2033 i can come back and say that I've been their fan for 20 years
