50 hours? Oof, that sounds awful. I was getting to that same point (barely sleeping, etc) but managed to stop it before it completely consumed me, because technically I didn't officially sign anything for the new role I was taking, I was just trying it out - so in a way, I experienced how it was like and decided against it. Luckily, my managers and the people I work with treats me well (even if they do tend to ask me to do more) and understood my decision. I actually enjoy what I'm doing but unfortunately, it's just one of those careers that don't pay well unless the government do something about it.This was my situation back in 2023. I was working 50 hours a week (more or less) at a job that was making me do work WAY above my pay grade, didn’t appreciate me or treat me well, didn’t pay me well (I found out when I left I was being paid significantly less then the other managers, hence why I probably worked the most), and I was working so much I was barely sleeping or taking care of my health and legit thought if I kept my life that way I was going to drop dead.
End of 2023 I finally had my final mental breakdown and quit. I decided I needed a new career field so I spent 2024 going back to school for a new degree and now I’m starting 2025 looking for a new job.
At my current job I was determined to just do my job and go home and this past year it’s made my life so much better. I don’t tolerate coworker drama. I don’t do stuff outside my work tasks, if something’s messed up it’s not my problem to fix it. As soon as my shift ends I leave and don’t stay later. If i have nothing to do at work I just be grateful that I’m being paid to do nothing. Life is good
I'm glad you managed to get yourself out of that situation and found something that works better for you. Changing career paths is a tough thing to do but is worth it.
Thank you, Beefy5 is better than none! I wish you luck with it this year, you’ve got it
and I’m a non-fiction historical girlie, if you’re into that I’d be glad to share! I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
Ahhh I see, I'm more a fiction girlie but my partner is non-fiction and also into historical types of books. He has been trying to encourage me to read more non-fiction and tbh, I do want to start getting into them but I just never know where to start because there's so much to know about. But I think I have a slight interest in reading about... uh, like atrocities of the world or something that countries/people try to brush under the rug? Something like the Killing Fields. So if you have recommendations that fit into that category, I can check it out.

Am I smelling a book club revival?

ohhhhhh I defo recommend The Devil’s Chessboard, it focuses on the US’/CIA’s meddling in other countries’ affairs (for the worse). A lot of the stuff genuinely shocked me. I have similar interests so i’ll be checking out Killing Fields! Thanks for sharing [/ISPOULER]Thank you, Beefy

This showed up on my twitter feed and I thought of this thread.
Maybe one of my 2025 resolutions should be to brush up on my French (though I feel I’d be miserable living there)

Thank you! Since there's a lot of pages, I'll probably have this as my secondary book to read on the side.
