YG Entertainment has announced their new CEO.

On June 20, the company’s board of directors held a special meeting and appointed Hwang Bo Kyung as the new CEO following Yang Min Suk’s recent resignation.

Hwang Bo Kyung entered YG Entertainment in 2001 and has been serving as an executive director and CFO.

She commented, “I feel heavy responsibility and a sense of duty during this difficult time. I will straighten out the basics in order for YG Entertainment to take a step forward.”

It was also determined during the board meeting that YG Entertainment will launch a new business transformation committee.

YG really out here playing YG stans, especially blinks like a freaking fiddle. They’re all celebrating the fact there’s a new female CEO and are quick to forget/or are just ignoring that he and his brother are still the major share holders lol

It's not necessarily that surprising. The "woman" issue is probably not relevant. In most companies the CFO is the second most important director after the CEO. And in times of crises, it's often the CFO that is put in charge because they have a much more mechanical view of the business. The YG CFO is also probably never been involved with weird, behind-the-scenes stuff, otherwise she would have resigned as well (or been fired). YG needs to be stabilised and that is probably what her brief is from the shareholders. It's very likely they've gone for a safe pair of hands.

On the other hand.... Korean business seems to work in a very different way to the Western model, so I'm probably wrong! It's all much more along family ties and patronage.

Would have been better to appoint an outsider and opt for her to be the interim-Ceo for the time being, as she is still very much part of the old management and especially as the CFO would have been very much aware of much of YG's dirty secrets, seeing as she oversaw pretty much all of the cash that YGE spent previously.

i agree. it's often said that the one who handles the books is the one who knows the deepest dirtiest secrets. If anything, the CFO could very well be YG's right hand. Only reason it would be unbelievable is because she's a woman and YG is misogynistic. But if that were a dude, we'd all be hella suspicious about him already.

You do know that shareholders don't exactly need to have a say in decisions? There are few kinds of shareholders.....

She's been in the company since 2001, that's 18 years of witnessing YGE corruption so I'm not expecting much of a change to be honest. But good luck to her, she has quite the mess to clean up.

yeah that's true but we all know in the case of YG he's still going to be in the shadows running everything
he just wanted to relinquish public responsibility
