I think it's fair, however it's...interesting how they only decided this after an Indian artist took the 24h-hours record considering people have been doing this for years now. 
Good. But my question is... aren't views counted after watching 30 secs? so watching 5 secs wouldn't give a view anyway then?

The thing is, it doesn't seem clear on whether they will still show as a view. So most will likely still use them f the show a view counter of 20+m in a day and ad views DO have an effect on trending and pushing the video to as many people as possible...
If the only draw back is 1, you wont get to be on Youtubes charts nobody knows, or gives a shit about and 2, you wont get a little 'you broke the record' Tweet most are likely still going to use them.
It's not so bad for the big groups who's views always regulate anyway after the first day, but smaller groups will suffer a lot imho.

Maybe this will do some good. I remember when views were organic. No one in the metal world cares about views at all.
