I don't even remember her name... but she's clearly making great headway, facing hardships head on.

Idk who I'd nominate, I'm not sure what to go by. An idol who stands out for some reason? Someone who recently did something interesting? An idol I like? Or just someone who's cute. I have some options but I guess I'll give it some more thought.

Suda Aki. I'd vote for her (sorry to the individual who nominated Noa, but... Aki's really good). I struggle with TokiSen, because some of their songs are absolutely incredible, some I find genuinely terrible, so I don't actively follow them, but Aki is really a standout, which is saying something considering how half that group is models.

Yup, had a feeling it was the urya oi/yosh shouts but I'm not sure if I've heard the original. So it's the tiger fire cyber etc shouts?

Yes, the original mix opens with tiger-fire-cyber (in one of several languages they use for it), and a lot of times you'll see wota refer to it as "jaajaa" nowadays since so many groups have their own custom mix. Urya-oi is a different fan chant.

This is a very detailed guide to different mixes and other common fan chants, even if it hasn't been updated in a while.


Oh and we have a pin for the thread now! We'll be much easier to find from now on.

Some specific groups are disputed, but the general idea is that idol girl groups make their fans happy as opposed to non-idol girl groups who make their fans miserable.

Apart from that there's no obvious thing you can point to.

Fansigns/handshake events? Not all idol groups do them. Quite a few non-idol groups have them too.
Bikini gravure? Same as above.
Fan interaction? Perfume interact with fans and have an image that's in many ways similar to idol groups but they'd HATE it if you called them idols.
Live singing? No, that's not it.


Most idol groups however are very dependent on fan-driven events such as handshake/high-touch and photo-meetings.
