I was mostly a lurker in the OH thread and will probably mostly lurk here too but I thought I'd say hi!

Her Begin Again episodes should start airing in around late August/early September no? Do you guys think she'll have a comeback around that time?

Also an OH migrant. I'm an old Taeyeon/SNSD fan who actually hasn't posted in ages in either of those threads. But I wanted to check the taeng thread in the new forum and all!

Wishing the best for Taeyeon with her recent slump with depression. I think actually there may be some positive that we might be able to interpret from her comment. Mental health is so taboo especially in Korea. There's stigma and many don't even believe the diseases to be real diseases. In turn it makes it hard for those suffering to acknowledge it as an actual problem, to reach out for help, to come to terms with their disease, etc. It's incredibly difficult for regular people, much less how much those difficulties must be amplified since she's under such a big spotlight. Given that, I found that from one perspective of the situation, certain aspects of her comment were reassuring in a sense. That she isn't buying into the stigma garbage surrounding mental health and is sticking up for herself and others. Also that she's been actively seeking help, treatment, medication, etc. She's addressing the problem and is doing her best to feel better. I can't imagine what she's going through, but I hope she has good support and help to get better.

Also wanted to reply to this comment, which weirdly seems to be gone from the thread,
@Zweig who was curious why she gets hate.

It's really only a vocal minority on the hate bandwagon. They're overrepresented online. Compare them to the hordes of fans and the love and success she has now and has had so far, yeah it's small.
As a really well loved celeb, she unsurprisingly also incites a lot of hate from certain people. I think the peak of hate comments she got were with the dating scandal and around the time of the SNSD member drama. These days I actually feel it's been a lot better, probably because she's been killing it with her solo career.

I agree, I take the fact that she's speaking about it and sticking up for herself and others with mental illnesses as a good sign.
I really find it so brave and admirable that she's so transparant about it and open about actually getting treatment - and considering her status in the industry that can hopefully be a step in removing the stigma.
Kpopfans loves to praise "strong" idols who are able to adapt well to the industry and the spotlight which is such bs. The whole thing where people in the public eye are always expected to present a positive side and always smile is something that needs to be changed. As Robin Lehner, a hockey goalie who has struggled with mental illnesses and addiction for years in an industry where people are expected to just "tough it out" said in his award speech yesterday; “I’m not ashamed to say that I’m mentally ill, but that doesn’t mean I'm mentally weak.”


Taeyeon is mentally ill but not mentally weak. She's facing an illness that's not her fault and thankfully she seems to understand that and understand and accept that she needs help for it. Unfortunately she does have very loud antis who have already tried to use it against her, which is why fans needs to be all the more vocal in their support and not pressure her. I hate to quote from Koreaboo but this comment by a neuropsychologist rings true.

iirc she hinted that we would be able to hear the studio versions of the unreleased songs she performed at 'S concert "after summer ends" so a September/October comeback does seem fairly likely! Would be perfect to have Begin Again running at the same time, even if she doesn't do music shows that would work a bit like promotion instead haha
