trans. somi's interview with w korea

q: what advice would you give to juniors that are starting their career from a young age like somi?
a: as a trainee we hear this a lot from our seniors: "as a trainee, we are tired of practicing and we complain about a lot of things, we are worried and think everything will be over once we debut, but once we debut we dont have time to practice and we think 'the rap, dance and singing skills we're building while training is what's really going to help us in the future.' "i thought i would be happy once i debut, that everything would be over when i accomplished my dream, but it's really not like that. while i fully understand the hardships trainees go through i cant help but ask myself "why didn't you practice more back then?" i wish i could go back to my trainee days to practice singing and dancing more.

q: this summer you made your debut with your song called 'BIRTHDAY' do you see or have any regrets regarding your solo activities?
a: it took a lot of time and effort for me to go solo, and while i have been on stage before, this was my first time being solo and during my first performance i was trembling. i hope to go you guys a better side of me in the future.

q: those who started their careers and made their faces known at a young age must have something solid within them to last long in the industry, what do you think is at the heart of that?
a: 'you're still very young, so don't be satisfied with the present.' you can't be loved all of the time, maybe even hated. but there is still a long way to go, and you have many days left to live. so work hard and be grateful. be transparent and honest.'

q:what is somi's musical interest these days?
a: i really feel like i should write lyrics about teenage emotions and expressions that can go with them, that i know my peers can relate to. i have written a lot of lyrics and sooner or later i hope to show them to you guys in music.

q:somi always looks happy. what is the state of 'perfect happiness' for you?
a:well i think the word happiness is a broad. still what comes to mind when i hear the expression 'perfect happiness' is when i talk to my favorite people. and when i eat a full meal on an empty stomach.

q: tv broadcasts tend to reveal family life (dynamics?), what would you say to your parent when you were young?
a: "get out of my room!" and "who tool the nintendo?"

q: among the lyrics you've written, are there any that reveal the character of jeon somi?
a: "i have a heart" "i was born good." *
