I agree. SM having all these cbs in may makes me very suspicious. But a june debut is a bad idea considering Twice and BP are both coming back. I think they should like tease or feature some unknown smngg members in one of their soloist's cbs, prob Baekhyun or Taemin's, in May. Then do heavy pre debut promo stuff in June-July and debut in August.Guys
I think right now sm made most of the comebacks! There is only Taemin and seulrene left to announce, I think...
That's makes me believe that the girls debut is very close.....

As far as I remember I saw some taemin fans said he mentioned his cb will be in May when he went live to talk with his fans last few weeks ago. But no media mentioned so left SM confirmation for taemin's cb and left seulreneGuys

NuguWow I was reading the op and I had no idea Lami and Koeun left.
I remember we were hoping for a debut in March, but we're already in May.. I wouldn't be surprised if they debut next year lol

Honestly, at this point, I wouldn't mind if the group is small, around 4 members. I know their last two girl groups were 4/5 members, but I find them a lot more appealing and interesting than having a bigger group of girls. I think SM is past wanting to make them SNSD 2.0 or the next nations girl group because Kpop has grown a lot in the last 2 decades and is huge in the US and Europe. Smaller groups are more marketable in the Western world because there are fewer faces to remember and groups like Blackpink, who is arguably the biggest girl group in the world right now, are living proof of that.

i think the likelihood of having a small group has increased a lot more these days, i used to be almost certain that they would have 9-11 members but i think sm may try to push this group towards western markets after seeing how profitable they can be.
still not sure if i like the idea, especially if they do 60% of promotion in america but only 1 person (eg helen) can speak english super well.
also in american interviews the questions they ask are so boring like i dont care about their favourite food to eat in america :ughh: please ask about the actual music thank you

i'm still thinking the group will have 5-7 members
I really think this group will be larger, especially when you remember that sm is going to make an exclusive girlgroup aimed to the US and global market... they already said it, this group is going to be small
But sr20g is 99% probability of being larger, to aim Asia market

I'm sorry but focusing the ngg on the west is a dumb idea imo. I don't think kpop in the west is gonna get much bigger, at most I think it can reach anime-popularity but anime doesn't come with half as much baggage as kpop does w twt stans harassing ppl and a million dark side of videos coming out everyday and covid has unfortunately increased anti-asian sentiment. Western markets in addition to only liking smaller groups only like girl crush concepts and smaller groups + girl crush is already what the vast majority of their competitors are doing, it would be smarter to reset the playing field in this instance than to try to compete with everybody in the same game. In addition a lot of Blackpink's popularity and $$$ in particular comes from their work as solo influencers which is a strategy SM is v unlikely to adopt given their history with ggs of pushing the group first and often rejecting solo offers until the group is sufficiently established.
SRG has huge support in China already and while admittedly a lot of the support waned after kolami left Ning still has a lot of fans and if they have her and a visual as good as Lami (which they definitely do) the group should be set in that market, if Hina's still there they've got Japan as well, and Korea's in sore need for some new vocal queens which they also got. I honestly don't care too much about the number of members at this point (although the ratio of 46:14 men: women in sm is pretty cringe) and I do think the size of the group may have been cut due to money concerns from covid. Western money is appealing and as fan I would want them to tour, but I think marketing the girls primarily towards the west would hurt more than help especially when Red Velvet is right there already with:
1. a small number of members
2. marketable concept
3. english speaker + 3 english names
4. all adult members (the age of kpop members is the thing that tends to skeeve ppl out the most in my experience)

That and we have to take into consideration how much demand for Red Velvet there is already in the Western market. People went crazy over them in Trolls and everyone wants English versions of Psycho (rip the rumour they did an English version for the Birds of Prey soundtrack...) SM would be stupid to push the NGG into Western markets over Red Velvet when there is already a demand for Red Velvet and nobody knows what concept NGG will provide.I'm sorry but focusing the ngg on the west is a dumb idea imo. 5. two members grew up singing R&B, and it shows in their vocal runs
I agree that Red Velvet has the Western market covered for SM. The big hole in SM's gg portfolio is the one left by SNSD, and I expect SMNGG to cover that one.

Yes, the market loves Red Velvet + English. Look at the top two in this list of non-title tracks from RV Data:

Based on what I see, I think SM will push to 2nd Half of the year. I thought after this collab & EXO Baekhyun's solo,we will get something. But all I see are their senior artists comeback/solo/subunit news. Maybe after taemin's & Seulrene's
