No offense but I'll never understand the desire to buy rich celebs stuff they can or will soon be able to afford already, like I understand donating to a charity in their name or something but stuff like this annoys me

I'm totally with you, it's crazy excessive. In a few years time if the fansites keep this up, they'll have to start refusing gifts like EXO did
my thoughts on this is guess depends on your perspective. I think the point is not so much the money.... it's the gesture. Do rich people stop exchanging or buying birthday, anniversary, wedding, gifts etc. just because that other person can afford it themselves? Not really.
Another example, recently RV Wendy had her solo debut. And each time she had used a different mic that the fans gave her as a gift. Surely Wendy can afford to buy 50 of those mics if she wanted to... but she choose to use something dear to her that the fans gave her. I've seen other idols like Taeyeon and Baekhyun do that as well. many idols wear gift from fans. I mean.. if it's something idols can use or wear and appreciate I don't see anything wrong with it. No matter how much the cost.
however, there are some things I think can be a bit excessive. Like the time Army paid like over $60,000 usd to have a birthday ad for "V" on Dubai's Burj Khalifa play for like only 3 minutes. If you think about it... that much money could be used in so many ways. Then again, it's their project... they can spend it however they want. And also.. a lot of these fans do donate to charity in the name of... or honor or their faves. It's not always just gifts for the idols. So...

All I can say is for his sake I hope it's not what it looks like. Cuz why would he be that stupid to do it in front of a camera when the camera is pointing and recording the girls?? 
As guilty as he looks... we do need to have it clarified cuz angles can be deceiving
idk if SM will address the problem unless K-Netz decide to join in on mass emailing etc. cuz the chances of a staff member who understands english that would notify SM is less.
