You don't need a permission to make a main thread for an artist, be it a group, an individual member or a solo as long as it hasn't been started by someone else before~ forms are indeed only for badges.

Whenever I insert an image from Weibo on a post people say they can't see it or that the link is broken. Do you know if there could be an issue with it? It's weird because to me they work just fine

Yes. That's right.
It seems like you cannot post direct image links from weibo on here. Assuming it's cuz of them blocking the access from outside.
For now I guess to side-step this issue, upload the image on imgur or something similar and post the image link from there.
