An S.H.E song? what kind of song are you looking for?

Recently, they've been focusing on solo activities so their solo discographies are also pretty solid!

Whatever's the best
As in god-tier level
Solo stuff is fine as well
:peepopbirthday:

@grainy
SKSKSKS forgot to quote lmao

hmm my favourite s.h.e songs
i recced the not very popular ones because you've probably heard stuff like xing guang, superstar, half-sugarism etc. before?
they have like 200 songs so it kinda matters what you like

Hebe's solos (i put in two of the most popular ones because it's less likely you've heard them, besides A Little Happiness + two of her faster songs)
I think she sings better live tbh but if you want i'll link the mvs

Ella's solos

Selina's solos

Sooo

Ella's a mentor with Blackpink's Lisa, Jony J and Cai Xukun on the new idol producer

Hebe's back with her new song (1 week before CNY... technically... in the same year...)

(unofficial, she released audio first. MV out 17th)

I was looking to find translated lyrics for 我爱雨夜花 (I love rainy night flower) and the translation I found was very, well, interesting. The songs is in Hokkien (or Hakka?) so I'm not sure if anyone here knows the lyrics but I'd love to know if those lyrics were correct.

I don't really understand Hokkien (you're right, it's Hokkien) but the written is similar enough to get a gist.

Translation:

The most notable part of the translation is the chorus:
(Four season) Marry a wife marry a wife marry a big fat person with a dark neck and protruding eyes just like a train’s chimney

(雨夜花 雨夜花) seems to just say "Rainy night flower, Rainy night flower"

The song is referring to a classic Taiwanese song called "Rainy night flower", and from what I can tell based on the translation it's about someone reminiscing about the time they spent with their grandparents as a child, and how they were singing that song.

this song?

It's a correct translation
The ending of the song speaks of how during the singer's grandfather's generation, they had arranged marriages and weren't allowed to love freely.

Somebody wrote a book on this period, but idk how accurate:

"“The ugly wife is a treasure at home” is not just an idle expression in China. For centuries, Chinese marriage involved matchmakers, child brides, dowries, and concubines, until the People’s Republic of China was established by Mao Zedong and his Communist Party in 1949. Initially encouraging citizens to reject traditional arranged marriages and wed for love, the party soon spurned ”the sin of putting love first,” fearful that romantic love would distract good Communists from selflessly carrying out the State’s agenda. Under Mao, the party established the power to approve or reject proposed marriages, to dictate where couples would live, and to determine if they would live together. By the 1960s and 1970s, romantic love had become a counterrevolutionary act punishable by “struggle sessions” or even imprisonment. The importance of Chinese sons, however, did not wane during Mao’s thirty-year regime. As such, in a world where nobody spoke of love, 99 percent of young women still married."

As far as I'm aware, there is indeed such a saying. The (imo, not very good) rationale of that time is that an ugly wife is more humble, resilient, won't attract much attention from men and won't cause trouble, leading to a stable home.

Yes, that's the one. The original version is from the 1930s (based on the wikipedia article).
I wonder if there are other SHE songs in Hokkien? It sounds so different from Mandarin, it makes for a different type of sound.
