ahhh it’s really frustrating to be australian rn.. it was so weird the other day when I woke up and everything was orange like that dust storm we had a few years ago except it smelt like smoke.. we had already gone through a few days of smoke by then at that time and that it was starting to clear up and the bam! everything was orange. luckily i didn’t have to go out but I went out for a sec and breathing did not feel pleasant at ALL. and now seeing NZ who is a whole 3hr plane ride away from us currently going through the exact same thing with everything turning orange bc all our smoke travelled over there is even more scary.. like wow this isn’t even just an Australian issue anymore.. I rlly do feel so lucky and privileged that the smoke is my biggest worry.. I cant even imagine what it’s like for all the ppl and animals actually directly affected by the fires... apparently we’ve lost 500m animals.... like our wildlife is known to be really unique because we’re so geographically isolated and to think that we’re just rapidly losing it all just like that... it’s just rly rly sad
I just feel really sad rn and worried that this is going to become the norm from now going on.. and if it will, I really wonder what this country will look like a decade after.. I’ve barely even lived out a quarter of my life expectancy... I’m so jealous of old ppl who can sit back and pretend as if climate change isn’t real bc they’ll die off before we really see the full impact.
