"Powerhouses like Big Hit and SM have their own online platforms to live-stream a concert, but smaller K-pop agencies don't," Yoon said. "So about 40-50 percent of their concert profits go to the platform owners that stream and promote the event on their behalf."

He said the companies also pay for venues, sound, lighting, instruments, outfits and catering services, among others. It is same as offline shows, just without the crowds.

But the ticket price for an online event is cheaper ― only about 30,000 won for one that would cost more than 100,000 won at a concert hall.

"Given all these, it is tough for smaller agencies to generate revenues unless their stars have a very strong fan base who will still pay for events where they cannot see the stars in person," Yoon said.

Channel A notes that many idols under small to medium-sized agencies are more popular overseas than in Korea and so most of their profit comes from overseas performances, which has been a problem during the pandemic.


so does mmt take the 40-50% revenue cut from dcc?
basically during the bad economic times during covid, the domestic market is not enough, so i'm glad that dc has quite strong international fanbase to support them. but can see that dcc is getting more aggressive (or desperate?) in trying to earn money, like 4 versions album, so many fansigns and having a store for official merchandise. maybe next they will finally reprint the old albums.

Boca era is great for me. I wish that they can promote longer though. Also glad that Handong is coming back soon!

I know sometimes the subs are a little late, so left them a while, but checked this morning and yup, still nothing hopefully they didn't budget cut the translator.

Yep. Usually they are late but kinda sad that they pumped out 4 DC Note content for Boca era the past 9 days and none of it is subbed.

Also I wonder with Youtube implementing the closure of community contribution caption soon, I wonder how will it affect future contents. Like will we get contents subbed?

eh I think that's kinda......realistic ?

Ok not good comparison but sth like utub (for streamer using superchat) utub takes like 30% cut, so if someone donates 100$ utub already takes 30$ lol (cmiiw)

It's just......how things are, esp marketing, we all know promotion/marketing is "expensive" cmiiw
