My not-that-bopping GFRIEND FEVER SEASON Review
01 Fever
I love the song from the very beginning. Of course I'm biasing my appreciation for highlighting more of Eunha's vocal. But alas, I'm happy to hear more of Umji's (somewhat) knowing she's only getting more on Japanese bops. Song wise, not the strongest, but a different vibe of "Summer" to enjoy. Moonbathon tropical genre is well exploited to me. I love it.
02 Mr. Blue
The string instruments really attract me, also the build-up towards the chorus is nice to hear. Some part of the musical piece actually reminded me of some westen English bop that I forgot. As a whole, the song give me early 2010s era of pop feeling. A good b-sides to enjoy.
03 Smile
Hippy happy song! Very Twice vibe. I can picture this song being Twice summer bop title. And it does reminded me a lil bit of Sistar summer vibe as well but just a lil bit. On the bridge (I think) also have a tiny bit of RV vibe. But is adorably happy song in general. Definitely love this as b-side.
04 Wish
LOONA vibe! Different arrangement of this song could be LOONA unit title. At least somewhere in between OEC and yyxy. This song is good enough to be title song for rookie group tbh. Another good b-side.
05 Paradise
That funky bass does a good job grabbing my attention. A legit filler/b-side song. I can see this song being interpreted in various genre, especially r&b and ballad. This song won't be anywhere good for vocal exposure, but a relaxing song to listen to.
06 Hope
This song is VERY 90s vibe. There's no doubt about it. Could easily be one of title song back then. But the fact that this is a fan song, I'm happy to have it as one. I can see how enjoyable they are singing this song. The strength of this song will be on their singing dedication to fans, and the lyrics that all of them wrote together. The song is gentle and easy listening. I need to see the song.
07 Flower (KR)
I love this song when they released as Japanese single. Again, the funky bass play a big role attract me to this song. And the fact that they injected Latin influence, I love that it doesn't feel awkward. But Korean version? Not awkward at all. Very smooth transition as expected. No issue with this song beinv translated to Korean. This is how KARA succeeded in Japan too. Good to see hoobae group to be able to replicate that. It's a yes for me.
Overall, I love the album although they don't have super strong appealing song for the title. Maybe most the won't be my daily bop like You are not alone or Only 1 or Love Bug, but definitely not the kind of songs that I'll skip from playlist. So yeah, I'm in Fever.
