only when they sting people it's funny you ask! i was reading an article. that asked the same question. i guess since we have spongy skin the stinger sticks in us. but when they are pissed and sting that mirror they don't lose the stinger, but the venom is still deposited!

So they survive. That's good. Makes me feel bad our skin is spongy lol
They just did what any gut instinct would do when threatened.
