Teach me the rules abput baseball.

too many rules!

this is as basic as it is.

Teams have 9 players each.

A game is played in 9 innings. Each inning includes 1 half where each team bats. You have a batting order, all 9 players bat consecutively (not like cricket where one dude can keep hitting)

Each team gets 3 outs in an inning. An Out can be made many different ways, it kinda complicated to go over each tbh

  • strike out - getting 3 strikes in an at bat. The last pitch must be a swing and a miss or a person doesn't swing at a pitch that is in the strike zone
  • ground out - you hit the ball on the ground and they throw the ball to first base before you get there
  • force out - you can throw to a base when runners are in a certain configuration, if the ball beats the runner there, they are out. See this video on where the fielder throws it to second base
  • tagged out on bases - if a player is not on one of the bases, they can be 'tagged' with the ball. that means a player uses his glove with the ball in it, or the ball itself to touch the player. that player is out. See this video because the runner was going to a base other than 1st base, he had to be tagged out. it's a bit confusing, but whatever lol.
  • pop out/fly out/line out - hitting the ball and a player catches it before it hits the ground. pop up - fly out - line out
  • there are a few other ways, but above are the conventional ways.

So you have out, what are the other thing that can happen when the pitcher is throwing the ball
  • hit - the ball it hit inside fair territory (between the boundary lines) - edit -forgot to mention here that the batter then runs the bases, if he gets to a base "safe" without making and out, he can stay there. you have to run the bases counter clockwise. touching any that you pass.
  • home run - a fair ball that goes over the fence. the batter automatically scores and can't be thrown out
  • walk - the pitcher throws 4 balls out of the strike zone (see strike zone pic above) - the player is awarded 1st base
  • hit by pitch - the pitcher hits the batter with the ball - the player is awarded 1st base
  • there's another way, but it's rare and confusing XD

Your goal is to score runs by going around the bases. This can be accomplished in many different ways but basically, If you hit the ball into fair play and not over the fence, you can run around the bases and stop at any base and you are safe. Once you get back to home plate (where players hit the ball from) you are considered safe there and you score a run.

here is an example of a rare play, but it shows how you can score runs a few different ways. There is a guy on second base (you see him at the bottom of the screen) and a guy batting. The guy on second had gotten a hit earlier and was already "safe" so he gets to stay there. Now to the hit. The batter hits the ball the guy on second runs to hoem plate, he was not tagged out so he is safe and he scored a run. Then the guy who hit the ball also made it all the way around the bases. he is safe, and thus another run is scored.

And when do you all choose to throw curveball...etc

throw it when you want to!
