So, last week I finally got around re-reading/reading Horimiya :poggers: After I forgot about this manga for 4 years and only got reminded of it once I saw Miyamura's card last year lmao And I just finished :peepopbirthday: Honestly those 122 ch went by fast, especially if I compare it with FMA, but the chapters were both shorter and had less text in them, so it makes sense.

First things first:
1) I thought I read about a half of it back then, but as I was re-reading it seem like I read about 80 ch instead of 60;
2) I also remembered chapter from 60-ish to 80 better than I did the earlier ones :TzuyuKek: So it made it really easy for me to guess which chapters I binge read and which I was reading as they were coming out lol;
3) Everybody in this manga shares one braincell except for Kyousuke, that man doesn't have any lmao;

Honestly, I really liked it, it was fun and silly, a tiny bit sad, but also fluffy and cute; sometimes really f stupid, but in a good way mostly lol and I ended up liking all of the characters - with my faves being Miyamura, Ishikawa, Kouno and Kyousuke. But y'all the author made it so easy for fans to write fanfics about the boy characters, coz some of the things these men did and said were just so- :TzuyuKek: They litearally acted like they don't have girlfriends lol
Also, Miyamura is such a smooth bastard it's sometimes scary, the things he did to Hori with a straight face like they were nothing :Slime:

And now time for my rant/review/spoilers
Yes, I wrote much more here, listen I'm not good at talking about stuff I like okay

As I said I really enjoyed the manga, but I do have 2 issues with it:
1) Hori - at the beginning, before she and Miyamura get together, she is fine, likable and has more than one role in the manga; tho it's mainly taking care of the house and her little brother since her parents are rarely home and that caused her to not have time to hang out with friends after school. As I was reading it seemed obvious to me that at one point this will cause some sort of problem and lead to Hori's growth as a character afterwards, but instead her mom just showed up out of nowhere and started acting like a proper parent, then her dad also showed up and until the end they were very present in the story (her dad more than her mom). Her having to take care of everything and having a hard time was never brought up again and that whole plot was basically showed under a rug, and I am just so confused? Why was this part of her character if it was left unresolved; it's especially jarring when you compare her to Miyamura who actually had his past issues resolved.

And I feel like skipping this whole plot lead to another issue with Hori - her in vol 5 - 9, when her and Miyamura finally started to date. In these volumes she mostly had one role - being Miyamura's violet and easy to piss of girlfriend. While Miyamura and other guys got to hang out together and show what type of friends they are to one another, Hori was barely ever in the chapters where girls were hanging out; she mostly was with Miyamura or was alone thinking about him. She had few good moments in there, but mostly she was just bland or outright annoying, her getting pissed of coz Miyamura dared to talk to his female classmate and then getting punched to the face really isn't cute or funny, especially the nth time it happens.

It was like the author just gave up on Hori, despite her being literally the main character, but thankfully she got better and got to be more than just Miyamura's gf from 10th volume till the end and tbh since she barely did anything without Miyamura I'd say her being like this didn't took away too much from those few volumes, coz there was really a lot of chapter focused on the guys, girls or other pairs.

2) the timeline - in volumes 1 - 9 we see the character go from being 2nd years to 3 years who almost graduate and the time flows rather swiftly? They don't spend too much time in one season and move on to the next with ease, but after the new years eve chapter, it honestly felt like the author forgot they were supposed to be graduating? I mean even before christmas/new years you would expect 3rd year students to have some talks about exams, university, future, etc., but it didn't happen, neither did it happen after the new years chapter. Instead there are 7 volumes of stories which could take place whenever, but instead they all apparently take place in the first 2 months of the year :Slime:
Listen, I really like those 7 volumes and I can only assume the author planned to end manga earlier, but then plans changed and it got extended, but it was really weird having so many stories taking place in 2 months, when like half of their high school life took only 9.

And so that's the end of my rant/review lol
I used to read Horimiya and enjoy it, but then at some point, one day I was reading it, and I was like "... Huh? Haven't we already been in this situation before?" :uwot: Like, I dunno... Just got really repetitive—that, and I kept mixing up the side characters ssdkfghd. So, I ended up dropping it and never gave the anime a watch, either.

It's kinda similiar, but tomodachi game is more like about a mind/psychological game than a survival one
I finished the first two episodes and it’s good so far
:catpopcorn:
Oh, maybe I'll have to check it out then. :poggers:

it's good! I recommend it!
omg SB fan :heartublob::heartublob: I am not sure what's happening with the most recent arc, but I will have to re-read them.
I am sad that they didn't continue the anime :sadpepe: I would love to see all the arcs getting animated
My other favorite shoujo is Akatsuki no Yona if you haven't seen or read it :TipPar:
I agree with the SB anime! I hope we get a remake one day, I'm sure the anime would do really well

I saw many people praising Akatsuki no Yona, I really need to read it
Is the manga finished?

The author sometimes forgot something happened before lol On more than one occasion a character acted like something was a brand new info form them, when they literally heard/did the same things some chapter earlier :squirtlechristmas:

No it’s not finished but there are still a lot of materials in the manga. This one, SB and Detective Conan are the only mangas I am still following.

I've been okay, but I haven't watched any anime episodes in a few weeks.

I'll have to keep that in mind! :poggers:

i just finished life lessons with uramichi oniisan

gotta love comedies that hits a little too close to home :poggers:

Wow, this is a gem.

Not normally into dark humor, so I didn't find the show too funny per se (in fact, it's quite...heavy) but its relatability really drew me in. I'm only a few episodes in and it's already hitting me like a wall of bricks. That part where the MC was mulling over how he felt guilty living a life without purpose...damn. Wouldn't have known about this if you didn't bring it up here so thank you :poggers:

===

On a different note, i finished all 3 seasons of Kaguya-sama (and started the manga where the season had last left off). Didn't think I'd enjoy a romcom this much, but it's such a top-tier show - so cleverly written and well-executed! Most of the cast are likeable, wholesome, and not 2D-ish. Best of all, no traumatizing fanservice, which is frankly what prevents me from enjoying many anime lol The humor is totally my kind (i know the sub elitists are gonna come for me, but the dub here is reaaally great and makes it a lot funnier). I went on a hunt for some comedy anime after the show was over, but haven't found one that could tickle me as much. For the record, I tried Saiki, nichijou, Grand Blue, and School Rumble, but dropped all of them after a bit.

Fate's impact! :poggers: In all seriousness, it's pretty cool a professor who teaches literature, linguistics, and classical myth would include an anime franchise's interpretation.

I recently finished a show called To Your Eternity, which I thought was pretty good and interesting. Would recommend it if you liked something like Violet Evergarden - an episodic, thought-provoking, and emotional journey.
