I little rant here but I hope Somi's next comeback doesn't take long, especially if that is the reason she is not joining the IOI reunion which as a huge fan breaks my heart... they will be promoting together for 6 months, that's enough time for her to join at least once...

And I hope her next comeback will be well prepared, that it will have a GOOD CHOREOGRAPHY (I really do not like Birthday's dance! it looks bland and rushed and... basic ... she has shown to be capable of so much more, her dance practices are all lit, and her stage presence is the best when the dance is good too, I hope next time they will take their time to give her a proper choreography, well-practiced until perfection is accomplished and that she will find her full confidence back to dominate the stage too, because even though she has improved in every performance, we all know she is not at her full potential yet. I watch her old fancams and Somi was glowing, her moves were sharper, her eyes and expressions were on point, I want that back for her. I want her to prove haters wrong, I want her to grow and impress us. And I want more music too. TBL better have a mini in the works for her.

Agree with everything you said@montchery

A rant ahead as well. I really hate being negative all the time but I need to get this off my chest, these are my final thoughts about her debut. So if you guys have had it with the negativity and the whole gloomy atmosphere don't open the next spoiler.

Her leaving jyp for yge was such a wrong move. I know it's her life, her choices, she is maybe happier, things couldn't work out for her in jyp but if she really just changed agencies because of the style of music as she said then ...
Still of the opinion that she would have been better in a group, even if I didn't like dalla dalla she would have fit pefectly with itzy. I mean the group was literally built aound her. But it's what it's, Nothing can be changed now, no use in reminiscing about the past and talking about "what if".

I've been disappointed with this entire debut, from song, to choreo, to outfits, to the choice of backup dancers.
As I said before it will take me some time to get used to her as solo Somi, hopefully her comeback will do that.
The fact that she said that her choreo wasn't finalized when TBL had enough time to prepare for a proper debut makes me question their managment. Not even talking about how they uploaded her MV 30 min later??? or how they don't post about her performances or about voting. They only did that one time if I'm not wrong. A lot of things need to improve.

Also Somi has to work double hard as a solo to gather a loyal fanbase. She was very popular after produce101 but after all those years, there is no denying that a lot fans have left. If she was part of a girl group, it could've been easier but now she has to prove herself even more than before, but this whole debut didn't help at all. Also the timing was horrible, yge scandals have affected her, she will be forever linked to yge even if she is at TBL. I still can't forget hr sad face when she couldn't win. Now it will be moe difficult for her to get a first win. But I hope with the right song we will eventually get there.

I know Somi has it in her, we all know that, she is a great dancer, has got charisma, her voice isn't too bad, it's just that she couldn't showcase any of these in her performances.
This is literally the one and only performance I enjoyed, because she was carefree didn't have to worry about her singing (that it affected her stage presence), her expressions were great, she had a lot of fun, there were no backup dancers who outshined her.

I think I'm being too harsh as this is only her debut, but as a fan since the very first intro video from sixteen, I can't help but feel disappointed.
Anyhow I hope TBL does a better job for her next comeback, I really do. Mess me with that whole YG swag or yg hip hop vibe or those cingey english lyrics. Give her something that suits her, even if it means that it wouldn't have that "yg swag" they talk about. But I don't know if that will work since it's Teddy we are talking about. These are of course my own thoughts and opinions, I know there are a lot of fans who actually like the song and her debut and there is no wrong in that. Just stating my own personal experience.

Hoping for better things in the future.

Her debut song was OK for me, but nothing more. It's probably because I grew up with western music. However, her song had far too many rap parts. Her voice did not stand out. A mix of 70% vocals and 30% rap is perfect in my opinion. Unfortunately it was the other way around for her title song. So people who do not like rap probably have a hard time listening to the song. I really liked the music video tho.

I don't want to say much about her showcase. It was just a disaster. Does TBL have no staff to manage a business effectively? Do the music producers in the company do it all themselves? Her debut was postponed several times, the schedules were not well organized and she was not ready to perform the song at her showcase. Hire a capable HR Manager, goddamnit!

I want to talk a little about her outfits. A netizen described it perfectly. Her stylist dressed her like a clown.

You know what they say about clowns?

It made me so mad. She should have slayed with beautiful outfits on stage and increase her fan base that way, but it did quite the opposite.

I'm happy that Somi has gained more fans with her underwhelming debut song. However, I feel she has gained more haters by comparison.

The overall winners are her haters, people who boycott YG and JYP company stans who still hold a grudge against her.

The haters are probably really happy with the outcome

She has not disappointed with her variety show appearances tho. The best Idol Room episode so far. :hearteu:

the company thought birthday fits her image so they choose it instead of outta my head -which is clearly superior song. kpop companies do that bs everytime. they shouldn't be afraid of choosing best song as title -whichever consept it has.
or maybe a duble mv.. yg did that for bp multiple times. everything would be different if outta my head had a mv.

still this is not that bad debut in the eyes of the gp. we only see netizens' and ifans' reactions but being in top 30s at the end of first month is not every debuting idol can do. and she is getting lots of gigs. i hope tbl would choose the best song next time, not an "image song".

i'm not happy with tbl's management so far. it's a mess. somi is an idol. they are acting too "indie" while managing an idol.

I watched this video after reading her mothers Instagram post to see what the buzz is all about.

It turns out that she's Somi's labelmate.

She is mixed like Somi and works as a child model. People call her Baby Jennie because of the resemblance to Jennie. She surprisingly didn't sign with YGE's model subsidiary YG K plus. Netizens assume that she's a girl group trainee. She is too young to debut tho.
TBL got their own Lami (SM trainee). :wesmart:

Agree, that is also the only performance I fully enjoyed. She was having fun and wasnt nervous, it made a huge difference.
As much as I am glad she has a good relationship with her backup dancers, they were also not there in this video so they didnt distract me from her. I feel the choreography was not thought for a solo artist, because sometimes the moves from the back up dancers while Somi is doing her own solo thing dont make much sense and take attention away from what she is doing, I dont know how to explain it, it just isnt cohesive. I dont like it.

If Somi were only to worry about dancing she would have shined and there wouldn't be any comparisons regarding her stage presence vs. dancers. I feel a huge problem with this debut is that they left the dance for last minute, and it is one thing to dance and a very different one to dance while carrying the entire song alone. We know Somi is a stable singer but she has never been very confident about her vocals. Had they had the choreography ready on time she would have had time to practice dancing while singing the song and I feel that would have increased her confidence A LOT. Unfortunately, it became very evident that what she said during the showcase was true. The dance was not ready and just a couple days later she was thrown into stage to perform the song... I dont understand why it took them so long to prepare for it either, the dance was nothing extraordinary, very basic. It showcased the backup dancers more than it showcased Somi's abilities, and they were not even well synchronized. It felt like all of them were trying to stand out, which is ok I guess as long as the dance lines look pretty? And synched, but it didnt. If it was a choreographer problem and he/she was not available that is his/her problem, once TBL gave us a date they should have hired someone else to fully prepare for it. Heck they should have had it all ready by then! When you watch groups debut they practice for weeks, sometimes for months, the whole stage performace. Somi got day and a half. It is very frustrating.

And besides all of this we got YG's scandals... the cherry on top we all needed...

Anyway, sorry for the long rant. I hope she gets to come back soon but well prepared. I need something good and new to erase all this terrible management from my memories.

Bruh that yellow dress would've been a better stage outfit wtf

I think we all agree - the debut choreo and styling weren't outstanding. Hopefully Bday will be Somi's Dream Girls and we get something better now that TBL has had time to improve.

New one; I like this one!

I thought her promo had already ended. This was great to see.

I understand the first week of her performing was awkward for many (understandable since she hadn't been performing on stage for while) but I don't see why anyone can say she doesn't have stage presence. To me, Somi does great and this performance just proves it for me.

Probably my fave outfit of the entire promotion period. She looks amazing, youthfull, the pigtails are great on her, and that crop top is finally showing how great her body is!
