Hello! That's probably because you didn't see/click on one notification you've received about it. If you receive a notification, you must open the thread to receive new notifications for new posts in the future, else the system won't sent you more!

so just to confirm this was the last notification i received for the thread

i have to click that before i get new notif? if i visit the thread manually not directly from the link in the notification would i still receive new notif?

If you revisit the thread it should reset the notifs and let you get them again!
