I noticed I just received an award for my first event I participated (the pdx guessing one), so I was wondering, do games like the one hosted by Riri not count as an "event" because it wasn't hosted by someone on the Events team? or no and just forgot to give out award for it.

Only official events team games or events are counted. User events or games are their own thing and are not counted for the ranking, however we can assist with games and sponsorships

So, if you look on the front page, on the right side (not mobile), there is a game ranking. That is all the points are for. They will reset next month.

vocaloid ww was an events assisted but user made mafia so it doesn't count. the others havent been added just yet
