I heard Su Ruiqi is gonna be in this but I didn't see her here. Does anyone know if she is confirm or not?
It's unofficial but she is 99.9% confirmed. She was seen at the airport in China, her fans were there and there were photos. People spotted her in the face reveal thing. So unless there is a doppleganger that looks just like her to a point of fooling her fans she is in.
there's so many chinese contestants, is this really a smart move? isn't kpop banned in china temporarily? i really wonder how this came to be
nevertheless even if I don't end up standing the final group i'm excited for this new show, I hope there's no major drama like in PD but I do miss the PD series
hopefully underrated artists that have already debuted get chosen or gain more fame because it would be such a waste not to
The Chinese government is very fickle. I don't know how things are right now as far as the ban in China of Korean culture and media is, but I don't think it's risky for that reason. The big risk is the anti China sentiment within Korea right now that is pretty strong. With the whole Xinjiang cotton issue and how some of the trainees in GP999 have voiced support to it there is already a vocal group against them. Unless things escalate sharply and China decides to cut all diplomatic ties with Korea and ban their citizens from working there I don't see the ban in China affecting the group or show as much as if the Koreans decide to boycott the show or lose interest because of it. There is also the issue with Hong Kong and Taiwan that only figures to get worse worldwide and apparently we have trainees from both places. If you remember the whole thing Tzuyu went through you can imagine the egg shells the production are walking on right now. Much like the rest of the world I don't think Korea is willing to do any big moves against China in protest of any of their transgressions, just vague comments. They don't wanna risk losing China as an economic ally so all their moves are just to put a front of caring about humanitarian issues. If the kpop ban in China is still in effect and continues after the girls debut I don't see it jeopardizing the group. Yes the income from China would be great but if the groups hits it off like IOI and IZone did they can still do well with just Japan, Korea, the rest of southeast asia and the western world. Now if they don't get traction in Korea then they will have a very hard time making it big anywhere else. The anti Chinese and anti Japanese sentiment in Korea is way more worrying than anything China does on it's own soil, specially considering how only 33% or less of the girls are going to be Korean on the show now as opposed to around 60% that was on PD48.
As far as how it came to be it's money as always. If you can sell in 3 countries instead of just 1, especially 2 of the 3 biggest economies in the world, you make a lot more money. The possible rewards outweigh the risk. If this show fails they lose the investment on the show but that isn't much for a company as big as CJE&M. If the show is a hit they make a lot of money, gain a lot more investment and prove they can survive the PD series scandal and keep the audition show cash cow alive.
Now I'm sorry to break it to you but there will be drama. That is what sells, that is what mnet likes, and I'll be very surprised if they go for a drama free editing. If you mean drama like the vote rigging scandal then I have no idea. I would hope they learned from their mistake and won't do it again, but they got away scot free of the first one and if this show hits it big it further emphasizes how little it matters to people and they'll just do it again.
I can see the Korean public picking one of the debuted girls to support like they did with Kaeun and Chaeyeon, but that is usually all they can manage. No more than one girl. Everyone else that already debuted gets forgotten. The biggest candidate for that imo is Yujin. But we'll see. Looks like former Busters Yeseo has a bit of a following too, but it doesn't seem big enough and the interest in the show isn't big enough right now. When the show airs a few episodes we'll see if her following grows or stays the same and gets buried by the mass of new people that will start watching it. Doa and the Cherry Bullet girls have some support too at least on social media and DCinside but the FNC scandals and Fanatics being a lesser known group makes me think they'll be overlooked when the show airs.

The new song is decent enough. I was worried because the name is awful and the rumor about a lot of rap made me think another disaster like Pick Me. If they went full hiphop girl crush I would have hated it, but they went run of the mill pop tune. Nothing memorable nor offensive. I'd say is on par with Nekkoya. Still not as good as Nayana.
A lot of the girls have been recognized and some look like have already been announced by their management companies. I think most look right but a few I don't quite agree with. Some people have been saying one of the girls is former Idol School contestant Kim Eunkyul and I don't really see it. I have been wrong before specially about faces, but I watched IS at the time very closely and followed Eunkyul after as she was one of my favorites and I don't think it's her. This site: https://gp999contestants.carrd.co/ seems to be pretty accurate even if it's missing some info and has a few bugs.
Some people have rumored and predicted that they keep the girls divided by country and I can see it. It would mitigate the population difference for voting, not to mention keep the girls that already have a following from the Chinese audition shows together for a bit more fairness. I don't know if I see them doing a 3-3-3 final lineup though. I think they will do uncapped like pd48 because normally the Korean girls get way more interest and if they pigeonhole themselves in doing a 3-3-3 group they run the risk of missing a super popular girl just because she has the wrong nationality.
I can see them keeping the 3 groups separated until they are down to like half and then merging because by then the girls will have had their time to gain a following and the nationalities would be less relevant for voting.
I wanna see more of who the girls are before I chose who I'm going to cheer for. A lot of pretty girls, a lot of cute girls. We'll see what their skills are like too. Seems like internationally Bahiyyih and Yujin have a lot of support for now. DCinside had a lot of Chen Xinwei and Ito Miyu posts too. Japan seems to be looking at Yeseo and Mashiro. I'll at least for sure hope that the Nizi Project girls do well, Kishida Ririka and Sakurai Miu. Very curious about the former SM girls. Herin didn't retain the initial support on IS and the former YG girls didn't benefit much on pd48 too. If it turns out it really is Eunkyul I'll root for her too. I already know Yujin, Jiwon, Bora and Mei a little bit. Always liked Mei but never really got into Cherry Bullet. FNC is such a mess too, I always felt bad for the girls. Yujin is in kind of the same position as Kaeun, except CLC never got nearly as big as After School got. We'll see how that plays out. They are in their 6th year so their contracts are probably up soon, so that is gonna be a very interesting story if she makes the final lineup.
Looks like FNC also sent a child actress called Lee Chaeyun. I hope she doesn't get the hate Sohye got, but we'll see how well she dances and sings. She looks like a cute kid but I haven't seen her performing. Seems like she attends the same high school as Kang Yeseo and they can both be seen modeling for their school on her youtube.
With Yeonkyung and Mashiro I feel like there is less hype around them. Could be me just misreading things but I think the SM former trainees have got more attention then the JYP ones.
I never really followed X21. Yurina is a pretty kid and it looked like she had a few fans right when they first found out about her in Korea. We'll see when the J-group performance comes out how much screen time she gets. I liked quite a few of the Prizmmy songs but never really followed the group to the point of knowing the members. Japan has a lot of smaller idol groups that have nice songs but never get big. Kubo Reina is a pretty decent vocalist but wouldn't say she is main vocal level.
Sakura Gakuin is another group I never really followed. I know about them but they changed members way too frequently for me back when I was following J-pop very closely. IIRC the members had to graduate once they got out of middle-school which is both too fast and too young an age group for me. Babymetal didn't really help the group get big just the Babymetal members which is a shame. Not familiar at all with Okazaki Momoko so looking forward to getting to know her.
Japan is by far the group we know the least about the trainees so their performance and when they finally reveal their names will be interesting. There really aren't many companies that do the training that Korea and China do for idols in Japan. Being a J-pop idol is super different from being a K/C-pop idol so it's gonna be a surprise finding out who the girls are and what their skill level is.
I didn't watch any of the Chinese survival shows either so I'm very in the dark about the Chinese contestants.
Still not really comfortable with how MNET rigged the votes and how poorly they treat the girls. Didn't watch I-Land so not sure what to expect from this new PD. I'll stick with the show for now to support the girls I follow from previous audition shows, but if the show seems to have the same issues the PD series had I'm not sure if I can continue supporting it.

I'm really gonna watch this, huh...
I'm not familiar with most of the identified participants so far, but I'll definitely be following Yujin, the Cherry Bullet girls, and the Fanatics girls. Cai Bing and Sakurai Miu have both caught my attention somewhat from social media threads, too, along with some unidentified trainees that nobody seems to know anything about just yet. Looking forward to getting to know the rest of the girls - I'll probably end up stanning the final lineup if their discography is anywhere as good as IZ*ONE's.

I won't watch it but I'll try to follow from afar, especially CheBul members, Fanatics members, Yeseo and Yujin. I hope they won't be eliminated too quickly and if some of them can make it into the final group I would be glad

As I thought it wasn't Kim Eunkyul. Unless she changed her name but still don't think it looks like her.
Looks like mostly the girls that were already known are getting the hype so far. Not that it matters right now. The girls with most support have like 200, 300 supporters but once the show airs, even if it does poorly, that number will jump to thousands, and if the show does well tens of thousands.
Some fans are really worried the show might end up like Idol School as far as interest goes, but I don't see that happening. These will be at least from the Korean and Chinese side, well trained girls, that have some following already. I might not be as big as p101 or p48 but it won't be IS. I think Koreans have proven they don't really care about "civilians", a.k.a. people not trained under a company, unless they are super talented that's why K-pop Star did well and shows like IS fail. They are not in for the whole watch a person learn and grow from the very bottom, which is why I think j-pop idol style will never work in Korea. As long as the girls are well trained already and under entertainment companies they will care about the show at least a bit.
Lee Chaeyun got a lot of traction after the K-group performance. For now seems like her, Yeseo and Chaehyun are the Korean trainees with most interest. Hyerim and Yeyoung got some attention too but not as much. Yoo Dayeon and Doa also have a small following. Sion, Yeeun, Hyewon, Sunwoo and Seungeun all caught a few eyes. But as I said above doesn't mean much right now.
Judging performance from these videos is impossible. The cuts are way too fast and never really focus on a single girl enough to make any kind of reliable assessment. All you can do really is check stage presence and visuals. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I won't comment on that. As far as stage presence goes I think the already debuted girls have an advantage with experience and I would say they didn't disappoint. Mostly all the girls that got solo screen time did well. Which is to be expected because they would obviously only edit in the girls that did well. But also goes as a reminder of how much screen time is a huge factor on who gets popular and makes it to the final lineup. If memory serves the only girl that managed to make it to the final group without much screen time was Doyeon. They basically forgot she existed the second half of p101 and she still made it.
Anyway I digress. A few girls looked forced here and there but I'd say at most like 4 or 5 on all 3 performances combined. I assume the centers were chosen by the girls themselves like with the pd series. I would rather that than the trainers, but we'll see. Personally none of them stood out to me. Not that they did poorly just that I think everyone did similarly as far as stage presence goes and the song and dance don't lend itself to anyone popping out with their skills.
One of the girls that managed to pull away from the pack was Su Ruiqi. The card move drew a lot of attention. Kind of random with the lyrics and performance, if it works, it works. Definitely the most memorable move in all performances. I thought she had a Moonbyul vibe and a few people online made the same comparison.
Lim Chenhan is another child actress the Koreans seem to have liked a lot. We'll see how well she dances and sings. Her and Chaeyun are going to be judged very closely by the knetizens.
Yurina and Miyu continue to get attention too. Mashiro and Ruan also got some interest. As did Ayaka and Fuko. Sadly didn't seem like people cared much for the Nizi Project girls, but I already expected that. The show didn't really garner much Korean attention. We'll see how things shake up when the show starts airing, hopefully they can get some more fans.
Even though the Japanese side had the most unknown trainees the ones that got more attention were the already notorious ones. It's not very surprising but I was expecting at least one girl people would be asking questions about. A few of the popular Japanese contestants I've seen a couple videos of their performances before the show and I can kind of foresee them falling behind because they aren't impressive dancers or singers. The Korean and international fans are very performance biased for the most part. Maybe if they take to the training well or with the magic of editing they get better, but for now I think the skill gap will be visible.
I have a few girls I am paying attention to, mostly on the Japanese group. A few storylines I'm rooting for, specially the "civilian" girls. Mashiro also because I was hoping she'd debut in JYP and when she left it was disappointing, then she was rumored to be a trainee with some other girls I follow from other audition shows. Girl has been through a lot and is still trying to reach her dream of debuting and I wish her nothing but the best.
Some people have been saying Miyu looks like Everglow Sihyeon, but I don't really see it.
Things are picking up really fast now that the show is closer to airing. I kind of fell in the Mnet trap already and am too invested in things as is. Bring it on I guess, just please treat the girls well...
