Mmm...looks like they will be releasing stuff according to their individual rankings rather than age like Twice does.

StanSo if the accounts of Akari, and Momoka are real and to be honest they do appear to be real then they most likely didn't decide or were asked to be continuing JYP trainees. Too bad.

I think I read somewhere that Akari had to go back to Japan if she didn't make the group (don't remember where I read that). As for Momoka, she wasn't able to survive the 2-strike rule on being in last place, so the probability of her being picked as a trainee is low. Yuna is still a trainee, unless she chooses to leave. The question is...will we be seeing Riria's SNS post next?So if the accounts of Akari, and Momoka are real and to be honest they do appear to be real then they most likely didn't decide or were asked to be continuing JYP trainees. So I’ve been on twitter and see people bring up JRA Best New Artist award.
Is this like the biggest award show in Japan? And I read you don’t have to be a new artist to win the award? Which is different.

Intersting. Isn't it because Japanese isn't into age hierarchy than Koreans do?

They are not as strict about it, but they do have the same sunbae/sempai hoobae/kohai hierarchy as well. I guess it's because Nizi Project was about individual rankings from Day 1, while Sixteen was Major / Minor.Intersting. Isn't it because Japanese isn't into age hierarchy the Koreans do?
So I’ve been on twitter and see people bring up JRA Best New Artist award.
Is this like the biggest award show in Japan? And I read you don’t have to be a new artist to win the award? Which is different.
Yes. Unlike Korea that has a million award shows and none of them is considered more prestigious than the other the Japan Record Awards is the front and foremost important awards show for the music industry in Japan and has been for over half a century. Now it still is very political as any award show. There have been scandals of buying awards specifically by LDH paying for Exile to win it. So even though it is by far the biggest award show in Japan it's value is still debatable. They have been on a 3 year trend of trying to award less big name artists to appease the people and recover their image so it's even more questionable how they chose the winners.
I think it's kind of hard for the girls to win it this year because Johnny & Associates debuted a couple boy groups that sold 1.4 Million records together and JRA does not do the one boy group one girl group award thing. So the new artist award is probably already taken by them. It is quite common for them to award multiple people for new artist but I'm not sure they will given the huge numbers Snow Man and SixTones pulled. It's not a big deal though. Not getting the award or getting it doesn't have a big impact on the groups career unlike in Korea where not getting it is a huge setback.
The thing about not being "new" is because Japan has this Major Label and Indie Label thing that is more important for them than years active. If you are a band on an Indie label for 4 years but blow up and signs with a Major Label they still consider you a "new" artist and you can win the award. You can look at the new artist award more like an upcoming artist if you want.
Obviously getting the award would be better, but it isn't as determinant for their success as it is in Korea. Japan is way more open about supporting an artist that wasn't popular for a few years. In Korea if you aren't popular from the start they just write you off and you need a miracle to breakthrough. In Japan it is super common for people to just notice a band or a group that wasn't popular for a reason or another and start supporting it. Like Bish for instance that is quite popular right now started super small in 2015 and eventually won the award in 2018. It's very common in Japan.
Intersting. Isn't it because Japanese isn't into age hierarchy the Koreans do?
Japan still has a little of the age and seniority culture, but it is way less prominent than in Korea. It is vital in Korean society whereas in Japan it isn't really a thing for the young generation at least not as strongly. You'll still see it in corporate live and school live, but in a way tamer version. Japan didn't really adhere to the confucianist teachings like China and Korea so it isn't a huge deal there.

It was fun having my computer break right before the final episode and only being able to get it fixed now
A lot of stuff to digest. Turns out the pictures were actual spoilers. Still sad about not having all the girls but I won't make a big deal about it since this thread is to support NiziU as it is.
Looks like the girls are doing well and I think my predictions for an eventual physical release are way off base now. I think something like 60k might be their floor now.
I wonder if JYP used Make You Happy as a benchmark like how I think they did with Dalla Dalla to gauge what to expect for a first release. I don't know how the digital market works in Japan as far as revenue share goes from the various digital distributors. I know in Korea you can make a lot of money specially for composers and writers but I'm not sure how it works for Japan.
The MV is pretty cute but nothing too mind blowing. It does its job well. The concept is very much what I was expecting, something youthful, fun and bright. It's reminiscent of E-girls. I kind of like the idea behind the rap, but don't like the execution much. Not because of how the girls did it more like it doesn't really flow well. The hair styles are hit and miss. Some girls look great some looked better before the change.
I'm not surprised about the youtube numbers. The K-pop connection is too strong for the youtube numbers to not be high. I wonder how many views it would have had if it weren't for JYPE's involvement.
I think the biggest key for how well they grow is decent music and good concepts. The girls are all pretty, charming and talented enough that I feel that is the only thing that could hold them back. If JYP goes for some more out there songs and concepts I can see that stunting their fan growth. They need to target the young gens specially now that there is a lot of 48/46 fatigue. Something bright, with less drama and more genuine would blow up in Japan right now imo. Luckily that has been JYPE's strategy for girl groups at least.

Yeah i think the value of the japan record award can be questionable, because the big names of japan are never nominated in the principal award, for example yonezu kenshi, aimyon , hige dandism, king gnu etc. But at the end is good publicity for the winner specially in the best new artist case. Bish was nominated in 2018 but the winner was the enka singer yuto tatsumi.
