it seems that way yeahAh yes Mnet already doing some evil editing
And fans went for the bait
So they are teamed, a trio with one of each (K-C-J). Looks like the evaluation are more depending on your teammates than the individual ?

So looks like Yaning is the main vilain of this season and fans are already into this drama. I always love some dramas, some dissing, even if it's Produce
Put Yaning and Bahiyyih together in the same team, international fans will crumble

It wouldnt be an MNET show if they were not evil editing someone right from the start. They always have to create a "villain" for each week.

Oof so much to unpack.
Doesn't look like the It's me challenge is getting much traction on Tiktok. Aside from the mnet account doesn't look like many people are doing the challenge unless you count all the random people that use the #itsmechallenge tag but for entirely unrelated challenges that just happen to use that tag because it's a pretty common English word. Not too surprising because literally every pop song release in the entire world tries to do viral tiktok dance challenges as a marketing strategy and we are severely oversaturated on that. Not a big deal in the end of the day.
Top 5 tiktok views right now are Hikaru with 554k, Ito Miyu with 467k, Yujin with 305.9k, Manami with 297k and Mashiro with 292k. 4 J-group members and a member of a group that did a few events in Japan.
Universe app continues to be a pain in the ass. Trying to access the individual OOO cams literally crashes the app every single time before it loads the YOUTUBE video. It's literally just loading a youtube video how can you fuck that up ncsoft ffs.
As far as the voting for who is going to be on the home page I predict it will be Bahiyyih for K-group, Ruiqi for C-group and Hikaru for J-group. K-group will be the real test to see if the support Bahiyyih is getting on youtube will carry over into voting during the show. I can see Yujin winning if using the horrible Universe app is too much of a hurdle to support someone you are only interested by association. C-group and J-group is pretty set imo.
I already expected it so it wasn't disappointing but the 99 girls performance wasn't much of a difference form the group ones. a different baro naya girl was all that really was different. The big light show and outside shot was nice and all but more for theatrical reasons than actually giving us more of the girls performing.
Now for the big doozy. The ep 1 preview. Mnet will never change and this is clearly still just Produce 999. I can't really say I wasn't expecting it, but I at least had a very slim glimmer of hope they wouldn't just go for cheap drama and not give a shit about the girls and just milk them for hate fueled schadenfreude. Think what you will about the mistakes Yaning made before the show, and also about the validity or sincerity of her apology letter, it still is pretty shitty to just crucify the girl on the global stage and just throw her to the lions to be ripped to shreds. There is always a possibility of evil editing, and straight up staging by Mnet, let's not forget the Somi fight she herself said they asked her to do it for a promo cut. Still they threw her a shovel and the girl dug deep and they hung her out to dry. Not sure what prompted them to ask her directly to say something to Yujin, which is in and of itself digging for drama, but setting up all the reaction shots like that they might as well just shoot the girl on the head.
I also hate that it works every time without fail. People eat it up like it's Christmas ham. It's gonna be a show filled with forced drama, and 90% of people watching it now will only care about the drama, which is absolutely awful and unfair to the girls that just want to achieve their dreams. Yaning is the new Chanmi/Haein and Yujin is the new Kaeun. Which is also fucked if you remember what they did to Kaeun at the end.
As far as why she decided to say what she said. I never watched any of the Chinese audition shows so I don't know what their whole vibe were, but if they were a lot more confrontational and focused on competition then I can see how she would think that was a good approach. Not sure it fits the Korean PD series though, and the backlash makes me think I'm reading it right. If this were SMTM or UR that would land well, but the PD series, at least the girl versions were much more about building friendships than fostering rivalries, as much as Mnet tried to make it about drama. I don't have a problem with what she said personally, and 100% don't think the hate is warranted, but do think it was very predictable and Mnet must have salivated just thinking about it. It's not a mindset I share or appreciate but I can see where she is coming from and it's a thought I'm 100% sure several popular idols secretly harbor. Including the favorites of those that are hating on Yaning for this. I don't have a horse in this race because I wasn't supporting Yaning before and still won't, but still think it's pretty disgusting how k-pop fans pretend to care about mental health and harassment but don't bat an eye to jump on a girl's throat when she does something they don't like. Not saying you have to like the girl, specially because of her actual real transgression before all this, but I'm not a proponent of eye for an eye or that you are allowed to treat people poorly after they do something wrong.
Now since the way these shows typically work is you vote for the girls you want in the show instead of off the show it will be harder for people to directly sabotage her since you'd have to vote for however many people won't be eliminated to have more votes than her, but I doubt she is gonna get many votes anyway so this girl is probably already eliminated and all she got from this show is a group of people that I'm sure will actively harass her for the rest of her life. So yay for K-pop always a beacon against bullying .
Speaking of voting, I won't make a huge deal before I know the entire rules and system but just on a surface level it's pretty shitty to group up 3 girls and eliminate them together instead of for their own individual effort. In cases like I just discussed that 1 girl has no chance at all you are just dooming 2 other girls who had absolutely 0 to do with anything. We'll see if they have mercy rules or the groups are more fluid then static but it still just sounds like drama bait and not at all in the best interest of the girls. Which has always been my biggest issue with Mnet audition shows. They seem to all be about the drama and not the girls at all and will actively harm the girls in favor of views.
Seems like the groups are the hidden box groups, because they match with the seating in the preview. You can kind of guess already who are going to be eliminated. I can see them doing like a couple eliminations like this maybe get it down to half the girls and go to a system that allows for top 9 to have an uneven number of nationalities. I still maintain I will be surprised if they go for a true 3-3-3 split.
We'll see how things turn out, but I'm not happy at all with that preview. Everything I dislike the most and feared the most appears to be what is going to happen.
The individual cams are out and they add up to almost 7 hours of footage. It's gonna be a long watch so I won't comment until I'm done with all of them. For now all I'll say is the choreo doesn't seem too complicated. The girls I got to watch so far are, for the most part, all at least decent save a couple. Hard to take big conclusions because of how simple the dance is. It isn't a bad thing but just makes evaluating their dance more broad and less nuanced.

yeah I'm really not into this either - it's really unfair even for a show like this because a trainee might be super talented and well-liked, but if she's unfortunately stuck with 2 other trainees that get little/no screentime or votes, then she'd be at risk to get kicked due to no fault of her own...and vice versa with less popular trainees getting far in the show just because they got super lucky to have popular teammatesSpeaking of voting, I won't make a huge deal before I know the entire rules and system but just on a surface level it's pretty shitty to group up 3 girls and eliminate them together instead of for their own individual effort. we'll have to wait and see how it will actually work but yikes it sounds messy even for mnet standards lol

After watching some of the fancams + predebut content, I think this is my current top 9 heading into the show:
1-4 are pretty much locked at this point but 5-9 might or might not change...we'll see.
There's a few different sorters like this going around Twitter, but this is the one I used if anyone wants to bookmark it for later.

The voting seems unfair, since we prefer individual voting and evaluations. They probably wanted to try new things, let's see how it will work and maybe during the first episode we'll find out how they decided to form those trio.
Was it a draw ? So it's up to luck and chance
Was it Mnet's decision ? So they can probably play in a sneaky way and have their fav together, etc
Was it the contestants' choice ? They might feel closer to each other and perform better together
Or maybe the judges/teachers decision ?
However it can be interesting even if it's less individualistic. Maybe to forced each other to play as a team.
Your teamed with two unpopular contestants ? How to handle this situation ?
Your with one "untalented" girl ? People might wanna see you much you will help her improve and you'll maybe win the storytelling.
Your with two skilled or popular girls ? How to stand out ? Or how to take advantage or the situation ?
Mnet likes to create some mess but regardless of the income it always worked, fans are reacting and talking about it. They always win, for now.

Took a while but I managed to finish all 99 solo cams. The choreo isn't too challenging and most girls did well as expected. My top performers that did a good job both with the dance and their expressions in no particular order would be Dana, Min and Rayeon. Nothing set in stone, it's 99 videos adding up to almost 7 hours so my standards fluctuated a bit. I felt like by the end I was a bit more nitpicky. Chiayi was almost in their class but I thought she had a couple moves that were a bit awkward looking. Jeongmin, Seungeun, Xiaoting, Jiwon, Szeching, Hikaru, Yeyoung and Tzuling all did a good job with the dance but I felt needed more work on their expression. Chang Ching, Yujin, Yizhou, Rei, Kim Dayeon, Suyeon, Reina, Yume, Youngeun, Xia Yan danced well but I thought were over the top with their moves. Ruiqi, Shima Moka, Shihona, Sumomo, Shiqi, Sunwoo, Chaeyun, Ayana, Ririka, Kim Hyerim, Doah, Jiyoon and Fuko all had good expressions, with varying levels of dance from pretty decent to not so much. Only a couple girls I felt struggled with the dance. Aratake Rinka was one of them. She shows some signs that she can improve with proper training but is very raw right now. Lin Chenhan was the other one. Same deal but a bit more raw imo. Dance wise everyone else did between ok to decent. Expression wise it varied a lot. A few girls were completely expressionless throughout, some had great expressions at times but forgot and went blank at other times, some had a very subtle expression that needs work, some had good expression that went awkward in parts, etc.
Right now top views are in order Bahiyyih and Yujin by far both above 200k views. Followed by Hikaru, Ruiqi and Yaning. Next is Xiaoting, Xinyu and Ziyin. Nothing too surprising. Yaning boosted by the hate comments and dislikes that give views anyway. Xinyu as a former SM trainee with a popularity boost. Ziyin is the most surprising one, but she did finish 18th on YWY but that didn't translate to many views on her intro video.
The results of the vote for homepage girl on the Universe app will be our most accurate indicator on how the girls will do when elimination time comes. We'll be able to figure what really translates or not popularity wise. Of course the show itself and the girls performances will change a lot of that before the first elimination, but it will be a good baseline.
The 99 girls performance trended on Japanese youtube, so it seems Japan is starting to care about the show. We'll see how that affects voting since it seems like the popularity is very different by country. If Japan, China, Korea and international fans all get into the show there is a chance the final group will be a hodgepodge of whoever each fanbase likes. Not sure if that would be good or bad.

ruiqi where she should be
i'll have to see what my 9 pics are, i usually start to form my ideal lineup as the show progress. however i think i'd place ruiqi at 1st place and choi yujin at 2nd place for now!
