Mostly I think the girls tried their best but no one really stood out too much. They aren't really comedians or TV personalities so I give them a pass for not knowing how to make an impact in just 99 seconds. A few girls I was very confused what they were trying to do and actually think they hurt themselves more than helped too.
Yeongyung is one that I kind of liked her concept, it's simple enough, but the execution was lacking. Don't know if because she isn't a great dancer or was hurried/nervous, but a old K-pop medley would be a great way to showcase amazing dancing skills or singing ability. She kind of shyly did very diminutive moves for the songs and I was just wondering why did she go for this concept.
Yunji I can remember because it's unique not as a creative idea just that it's very different from what the other girls did with the traditional instruments. Not that it matters or makes a difference because she has the least views.
An Jeongmin was pretty charming with her performance. The whole live musician at a cafe is alright but nothing too special as a concept but she had a very charming voice and sang well.
I don't speak Korean but I think Bora did well. At least her lyrics sounded like they fit the melody. Maybe she was pronouncing everything weirdly and it was terrible, but from a non speaker perspective it fit well.
I think Kim Dayeon concept was pretty alright. Not too mind blowing but what intrigued me was her spoiling that leadership is her strength and that we'll find out soon. My guess is she is chosen to lead a group they win and that is part of how she became the center. Or it might get edited out of the show because you know... Mnet
Kim Hyerim seemed pretty decent too. She pulled off her concept well. Didn't seem to forced doing her mock insta live, had a pretty charming voice herself, sang well. She looks like a pretty outgoing kid. Maybe even would do well in variety shows, but that is always tricky to predict. Variety is a pretty tough thing to do specially for idols. Also Hyerim and Hyerin is not gonna be confusing at all... At least they have different surnames.
Suyeon was pretty impressive singing. Nothing main vocal like, but she had some more advanced technics that trainees usually don't have. She does look a little bit like Eunwoo too like some folks have been talking about. Wouldn't say they are identical but I definitely saw the resemblance on the K-group performance.
I think Youngeun did pretty well too. Was very fluid didn't seem awkward or forced. Hard to judge fully her dancing in the onesie but it looked as good as you can. Also felt like she is a pretty outgoing kid that feels comfortable on stage.
Chien Tzu Ling looked like a decent dancer. What I don't get though is why so many idol trainers and idols like waacking so much. It isn't a particularly impressive dance style and doesn't really look great imo. Also very out of the left field she did voguing.
I have no idea what the opening bit is that Fu Ya Ning did. It was so bizarre.
Gu Yi Zhou messing up her ending is also memorable.
Hsu Nien Tzu saying it herself she isn't a great dancer or singer is a weird move too. I guess people would figure it out once the performances air, but the way Korean and international fans obsess over performance I think just leaving it be would be better than painting yourself as an average performer. Unless she is being modest and ends up doing great I feel like it's a puzzling move. We'll see how it turns out.
Liu Yu Han's intro was a bit disturbing. Media in general already gives a pretty awful body image message and K-pop is no different if not worse. So hearing her comment on her own weight was very disheartening. I know her not mentioning it wouldn't change anything and I'm not saying she did anything wrong. It's just a reminder of the bad parts of the industry and things we have to continue fighting to denormalize. Unless it was a mistranslation it's a very sad thing.
Turns out Wu Tammy was the super long haired girl people spotted on the C-group performance video. The concept for her intro was pretty unique, but her singing wasn't super impressive.
Xu Ruo Wei liking skiing and horseback riding, both sports that are hard to do a lot with no money makes me think she has a well off family. Not necessarily rich, but at least upper middle class.
I also don't get Luo Fei's concept. Did she just randomly decided to do a mermaid bit, or is it like an old nickname or a play on her name? She has the most views out of the C-group so if it works I guess.
Still don't have many picks outside of J-group. A couple girls drew my attention here, but I'm wouldn't say I have made up my mind on anyone. We are starting to see a few pre-show favorites and it's going to be interesting seeing if they stay there or not. Japan doesn't seem to interested in the show just yet, but things can change. August is coming up fast so we won't have to wait too long.
