This is why I needed to read a shit book after Mistborn so that I "come back to reality" since the feeling were still strong so I wouldn't end up comparing every fanatsy book to Mistborn.
Now I can read Fantasy with ease (the after effects of Mistborn faded) and enjoy hem

Wait till you get into The Way of Kings, to me this blows Mistborn out of the water.

I finally got over my reading slump due to to stress this weekend, and finished The Republic of Thieves. Again the book ended on a high note, making me wonder what was in store for Locke and Jean. It took a long while for me to understand Sabetha and relate to her, but by the end she grew on me and I understood her feelings more about not wanting things that are just there and you are used to them, but in the beginning I was totally put off by her behaviour and reactions. Of course no one really know when the next book is coming, apparently it's in limbo and has been delayed for a while...so yay me.

I also ended up reading Naomi Novik's Uprooted. It took me about 50 pages to get into the story, but it was worth it in the end. I couldn't put it down and finished it in about a day. It started of feeling like a typical YA type fairy tale fantasy, but ended up being more. I enjoyed it a lot and the plot kept moving at a fast pace. I think Ellen Degeneres is supposed to be making a film based on this, so I look forward to seeing it.

Yessss Uprooted is SO good! That ending chapter was incredible. It's one of the few books that could translate the beautiful magic of these myths to words, one of my favorite readings last year

I can't wait to get my hands on Spinning Silver, that looks good as well.

Right now I am reading Us Against You by Fredrik Backman. It has sucked me in since the first page, picking right up after where Beartown left off and all the consequences that came from actions taken in the last book. I love it, every chapter leaves you on edge and I know something ominous is about to happen. I'm already more than halfway through.

I just finished Us Against You, the story is very relevant to today. All I have to say is I love Benji, he was my favourite in Beartown and remains so in this book as well.

I bought the books and took them overseas with me when i was getting married....I didn't get a chance to read them since my husband started to annoy me with " How many pages have you read now?" "Are you done yet?" "Just read the first pages and the last!" for fun. I wish I had brought them back but unfortunately I had no room in my luggage so he has to bring them whenever he comes. But the little I did read had me excited, I am a huge fantasy fan in general though. I was hoping to finish reading it before the series starts but that's not possible now. The trailer looks promising, lets see how Henry Cavill brings to Geralt. I do find his face distracting though.

I loved His Dark Materials, I've read them many times and the books never get old. The movie was a disappointment, and I am happy it's being given another shot as a series. The cast is amazing, I am hoping HBO doesn't butcher it. I need to get my hands on the prequel novel that came out.

Holiday is over tomorrow, and I only read 1.8 books

I love the witcher books  I think its best to start with the short story collections - the last wish and sword of destiny - and then move onto the main series if you enjoy.

My problem is that I love reading but I get distracted so easily and I literally have so many books on my bookshelf that I've half-read and put down for later but never come back to. Like I seriously have books I started reading when I was 12 that I still haven't finished :somicry:

My other problem is that I was really into Star Wars books when I was 10-13 and I read a lot that I think I probably didn't entirely understand. I read the book my favourite character was going to die in (because I already knew it would happen) and only read the chapters he was in because my agenda was to see him get killed (apparently I hated myself lmaooo). So I read less than half of the book. And I want to go back and read some of these books but I'm worried I'll half read them again and never finish them :wut: Also none of my children are canon anymore THANKS DISNEY

TL;DR I love reading but I'm a damn bad reader and f*ck Disney

Finally our own section!
Guys, anyone is participating in the reading rush readathon?

I had no idea this was a thing, looks good, I am still working on the summer reading challenge but this looks like it can go along side it and make me finish my goodreads goal.

I agree, Disney is coming for owning all our souls, I have anger for all the news about the Marvel content that is being released since I don't want to pay for their subscription service. But for you're book situation all I can say is try. I get distracted once in a while I remember not finishing the Hunger Game series I came back to the last book years after I bought it...but eventually I was glad to have read it.

Try audio books! They help me focus. I listen and follow by reading at the same time. Most audio books are great with great voice actors so it's a plus
Sometimes when I am not enjoying the book that much but I want to finish it, I put the audio book in 2X speed or 1.5x lol. So I finish the book quickly and move on to the next!

So a few hundred pages into River God now and I am feeling a bit better about the book. It's nice to get lost in Ancient Egypt and the author has a way with creating beautiful imagery with the setting. But it is very jarring as well, it gets very graphic with violence, rape, paedophilia, and that is what hits me in my gut and cuts my enjoyment. I guess this is good too and a credit to the author because you aren't supposed to enjoy those things. Also I have to remind myself that these were ancient times, people didn't live as long, and obviously this behaviour sickens me, it's not acceptable now and the main character who is into these things is the villain.

I am thinking of investing in an e-reader again since my physical book count is getting ridiculous. I used to have one a long time ago but it had an unfortunate accident. I was wondering what I should get. I am leaning toward the Kobo since I am in Canada and the variety of files I'd have access to is more than what I'd get with Kindle. I was debating between the AuraH2O and Clara...the Forma doesn't seem worth the money to me. Any advice?

I started to read 'The Taking of Annie Thorne‘ by C.J. tudor. It‘s a (horror/)thriller story and Stephen King recommended it, so I bought it.
I only read a few pages and it‘s already creepy. :vaderecto:

I have a kobo glo HD. I think its an old version that is phased out now but looks similar to Clara. Anyway, it performs its function of reading text ebooks well. Nice screen and text, long battery life, lightweight. But: (1) don't expect it to read pdfs or image heavy books adequately. (2) The kobo store and app is trash. I just use calibre to load ebooks on. Have never used a kindle, so don't know how it compares.

anyway, good luck :shablob:

oooooh sounds interesting the author I am reading is Stephen King recommended as well, but is a historical fiction, so not creepy.

I used to use calibre when I had my first e-reader, I love my physical books, but i can't keep buying them...the only other option beside the e-reader is my phone or tablet, lets see what I do when I get paid

Guys, how about we create a small book club here? I never participated in one but I would love to buddy read some books with you! :peepopbirthday:
Since most of us here prefer fantasy, it would be lovely to buddy read some long fantasy books!
