The Distance ones were definitely superior and for me, it probably even were the best uniforms they wore.
But the tablecloths BiSH

i bet watanabe is regretting setting the mark so high
[3rd Generation BiS Vol.6] I’m the person standing at the side of the stage -- Toggy continues to leave the mark she envisioned on BiS!
This series, “Is It Really Possible To Have a Third Term of BiS!?” will document the third generation of BiS. The last in our series of individual interviews is with Toggy! Despite being seemingly aloof from the world, the ending of her words always ends with “to be an idol”, showing her unwavering intention. She’s had everything, from adversity to setbacks, we present to you the very essence of Toggy!
And so, this third term of BiS is set to hold their first one-man live, ‘THiS is BiS’ next month! So far the bans have been slowly lifting, with songs being gradually released, members travelling all around the country to CD shops, and accepting calls for ticket purchases. Although their bare faces have still yet to be released, members of the third term of BiS have already managed to make their “direct” thoughts known. While such feelings as these reaching far and wide, I’m sure they will burst onto the scene, alongside many fans, to all sorts of places. I have high hopes that the third term of BiS will truly be a spectacle to behold!
INTERVIEW: TOGGY
Today’s solo interview is with Toggy, who has the honour of going last. One thing that every member has in common is that they have all applied for a WACK audition before and failed. No matter how many times she tries and how many times she fails, Toggy refused to take her eyes off her target. That itself is very reminiscent of the previous incarnations of BiS, that have stood back up again no matter how many times. It’s been about a month and a half since the members were announced, and although their bare faces have still yet to be released, we know that these individual interviews have unleashed a mass of possibilities. So.. Is it really possible to have a third term!?
Interviewer: Iida Jinichiro
Author: Minakami Kenta
WHEN I WAS IN ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL, EVERYONE AROUND ME WAS SO MISCHIEVOUS.
- Toggy, you’re originally from Kyoto, so how was it coming to Tokyo?
Toggy: My weakness is housework. When I moved to the big city, it was my first time living alone, so it was my first time doing things like washing up or cooking…
- How did you feel…?
Toggy: At first, I really didn’t know anything. Like, I didn’t know how the use the lid of the kettle to pour out the water. You have to close that for it to boil. Um, do you know what a kettle is?
- I do (Laughs)
Toggy: Not an electric one.
- An electric one is called a pot…
Toggy: Right. So I was boiling the kettle with the lid open for ages, waiting for it to boil, until I was told that you’re supposed to “close the lid”.
- Toggy, what kind of student were you in elementary and middle school?
Toggy: Everyone around me was really mischievous. I was seriously scared of them.
- How was your high school life?
Toggy: The highest tier in our school caste system was the girls in the basketball and soccer clubs. Those girls became interested in me…
- That’s a good thing, isn’t it?
Toggy: But, apart from them, all the other girls were like, “I don’t understand why they’d even be interested in her” “Let’s just ignore her for now”, things like that.
- All of a sudden they bullied you?
Toggy: It was scary.
- What kind of treatment did you receive from those around you?
Toggy: I wonder. They would talk to me, but then they’d bad mouth me behind my back.
- So, you high school life wasn’t particularly interesting?
Toggy: I didn’t really care what others said about me behind my back, though.
- So you didn’t really feel like you were bullied?
Toggy: Exactly. It would just come up every now and then.
- What sort of things would they say?
Toggy: At that time, the desks on both sides on me were filled by delinquents and they’d always talk throughout the entire class. They would have conservations like, “Do you like Toggy?” “No, I hate her” when I was literally sat right between them. I would just sit there thinking, “I’m right here”.
- That really hurts my heart… What would you do, Toggy, during those times?
Toggy: I’d just pretend that I didn’t hear them.
- Did that sort of thing happen often?
Toggy: Yep. More and more so.
- That’s tough…….
Toggy: There definitely were times where I’d think, “I’m being bullied by a fair few people”, but I had friends like normal in some other classes.
- What about any club activities?
Toggy: I wasn’t in any club.
- So, what sort of things were you doing outside of school?
Toggy: I was in the going straight home club. Until the 2nd year of high school, I was pretty worried, I had no hobbies… I think it was, maybe, a bit of a dark time.
I SUDDENLY HAD THE VISION OF ME STANDING ON STAGE
- So where exactly did you life change?
Toggy: I became addicted to idols. I would occasionally see BiSH on TV and think, “Incredible~”. It was the first time in my life that I listened to the lyrics of a song and thought they were amazing.
- So that was the trigger that made you want to become an idol?
Toggy: At that point, I just though they were great. A little after that, I saw on Twitter that Aina The End got on well with Coco Partin Coco, so I then came to like GANG PARADE. At that time, on Twitter, whenever you mentioned Coco, she’d quickly give your tweet a ‘like’, so I thought “I have to go see them live”.
- I see.
Toggy: Up until then, I’d never been outside my local bubble of Kyoto and I’d never even been to Osaka alone before, but I went to Osaka for the first time just to see them perform live.
- Oo!
Toggy: During that very live, the moment all the members came out onto the stage, I had the vision of me standing there, at the side of that stage. Seriously, the feeling of “Ah, that’s where I want to be…..”
- And so you thought you wanted to become an idol.
Toggy: Yes. I knew that I wanted to, so I applied for the WACK audition. Of course, the first time I failed at the document checking stage. But, as I mentioned earlier, I knew inside that there was only one way for me to become an idol, so I made up my mind and moved from my local area to Tokyo. Of course, I still couldn’t tell my parents that.
- Did you confide in your parents afterwards?
Toggy: I made an announcement to my parents that “I want to become an idol”. In return, they said, “Please let us think about this over night”. It seems that my parents stayed up that whole night thinking about my future prospects, without getting a wink of sleep. The next day my parents said, “Isn’t it for the best if you just stop this?” as they didn’t think that I’d be accepted any time soon. I listened to them with the feeling of “one day I’ll persuade you”.
- Well, it is natural for parents to be worried.
Toggy: You’re right.
- Crazy, isn’t it.
Toggy: But, no matter how many auditions I failed, and no matter how many times I questioned myself as to why “I want to become an idol”, that hazy vision wouldn’t fade.
I HAD A DREAM THAT NIGHT. A DREAM ABOUT A BIG FISH.
- Even though your parents were opposed to it.
Toggy: I was deadly serious about doing it. And that part was to be expected. I was saying things like, “First of all, I’ll go to Tokyo and I’m sure something will come of it”, but I think inside I was also really worried.
- So from there, why did you apply for the BiS audition?
Toggy: The auditions were announced for the third term of BiS on the day of the ‘WACK EXHiBiTiON’ and I instantly decided that I wanted to go for it. Thinking about it now, I had a dream that night. A dream about a big fish. I woke up and thought, “huh, isn’t this one of those dream prophecies” so I looked it up and it came back saying that it means, “Good fortune will come”. At that point, I was convinced that I would pass.
- How did you pass?
Toggy: A fair bit of time had passed since the interview, but then I received a call from an unknown number. I took the call and the voice said, “This is Watanabe of the Kyoto police. A TENGA with (Toggy’s real name) on it has been found, is it your’s?” I answered, “Yes, it’s mine”.
- (Laughs) Did you know it was Watanabe?
Toggy: We talked about TENGA for a while. Then he said, “It’s Watanabe from WACK, you’ve passed”.
- How did you feel?
Toggy: Haa, I was happy.
- In the end, have your parents forgiven you for wanting to become an idol?
Toggy: When I first informed my parents they said, “We knew you’d pass~” so one way or another, they’re pleased.
- That’s good then. Lastly, please tell us about your big future goals.
Toggy: The biggest goal would, of course, be Budokan, but I also want to perform where I watched GANG PARADE live at Osaka Open-Air Music Hall with the same kind of passion.
