StanMy main argument wasn't that charting is down to a lot of factors. I said that to properly evaluate a song's success or performance, you need to consider all the factors and not base it purely on how many days it spent on the Melon Top 100. My point about mentioning all the other metrics was to show that you could easily argue a different viewpoint if you just chose one different metric to bolster your viewpoint.
That's fair but I guess I just feel like a lot of the metrics that FS did well at was more down to Fancy expanding the fanbase than FS itself.

While Fancy, with it's more mature sound, did help to expand the fanbase, I certainly wouldn't pin FS's metrics all on Fancy. That's fair but I guess I just feel like a lot of the metrics that FS did well at was more down to Fancy expanding the fanbase than FS itself.
Fancy's GAON/Oricon/(difference) numbers (19/11/03) : 389, 002 / 120,293 / (268,709)
FS's GAON/Oricon/(difference) numbers (19/11/03) : 400,523 / 82,952 / (317,571)
FS's non-Oricon sales are 48.9K more than Fancy's, which suggests that its success is based on more than just Fancy. I'm sure other activities and releases, like Breakthrough and Twicelights world tour, played a part as well.
Although I agree giving a single fk about top 100 charting is dumb asf, as no one cares about songs outside of the top 20, I'd like to point out some flaws in your argument for your case.LOL. So people wanna cancel JYP and his 3 Twice songs based on a single metric on one chart? I mean, why not, right? We just have to ignore that:
There are many relevant metrics to consider if you want to evaluate Twice's release, not the least of which is actual sales revenue, which is arguably more important than some chart index on one particular platform with its own history of dubious chart movements. Let's not forget that charting performance is not only affected by other competing releases, but also by SK public's fickle and rather lemming-like tastes, and that these "failed songs" still out-charted and outperformed most other GG releases of their time across many metrics. If you want an honest appraisal, you should consider all factors - leave the cherry picking to Thrice.
- 2 of those 3 songs are MAMA SOTY winners
- The one non-SOTY song is the title song of the current best selling Twice album based on GAON charts.
- WIL (single) has the 3rd highest GAON digital points of all their releases
- WIL (album) won Gaon Album of the Year - April and a Bonsang at the Golden Disc Awards
- WIL and Signal (singles) have 5 roof top hits combined. Signal has 3, and is tied with CU for 2nd place behind TT, while WIL has two, and is tied with HS and KK for the next rank down.
- DTNA may be #2 on Twice's Melon Top 100 songs, but WIL (album) outsold Summer Nights both overall and also in 2019.
- YOY may rank higher than Signal on Twice's Melon Top 100 songs, but Signal (album) also outsold YOY (album) both overall and also in 2019, despite it being a year older.
-It's a debate of digitals, leave the physicals at the door.
-The public isn't buying the albums, they don't really strengthen your argument talking about those sales in particular
-You could had pointed towards streams and downloads.
Also is it even worth it with people who argue WIL is a flop? They're straight delusional.

The guy may have been referring to digitals, but the point he was making was, and I quote... "Not once, not twice but three times he failed Twice." The post wasn't a debate about digitals (GAON digital points would have been a more appropriate measure for that than Melon charting) - the guy was simply cherry-picking one metric to attribute failure. The physical sales were referenced to refute THAT point, since I'm pretty sure that revenue from physicals are a much more important benchmark for JYPE mgmt than how long they chart on Melon. I don't know why I have to belabor the point, but again, my argument was that the merit of the song doesn't lie in a single metric (Melon charting), hence the references to other metrics (physicals, awards) as a counterpoint.

JYP beef and Twice not attending again this year - it seems odd that a girl group other than them got there as they have the digitals and also the voting which is like 80% of it

Yeah, Melon's not even bothering to pretend anymore.
I'm going to ignore you going on the defense at the start as you seem to not carry it further.
Also, don't reply back repeating why you did x thing, why you did y thing, that's missing the point of my post. The reasoning for x argument doesn't change that x argument just doesn't work. You had some digitals but you padded it out when you could had continued on that path, and equally so you could had just countered it even without the numbers by pointing out the holes in his logic. The parrots that want to make such crazy statements like WIL did bad digitally blame jyp won't have their ideas thoroughly dismantled if we keep bringing up random stuff to pad out the reply. Stick to what they bring to the table, not slap more onto the table.
Note, I already argued with Dreamer on this, and tried to omit anything you might not had known about his intent or argument that I do know. If it comes across as I'm assuming on his part, I'm not. I've already heard from him, so this doesn't cause confusion.
It doesn't matter, to debate against him talking about the singles, the digital singles, you used physical albums. You met the meat of his argument with points that did not address or debunk his with bringing them up. You padded it out with useless information for him.The guy may have been referring to digitals, but the point he was making was, and I quote... "Not once, not twice but three times he failed Twice."
If you're arguing for the point of your post, your debate wasn't about digital, his was. Again, you didn't fully debunk his statements or challenge his poor logic. How he went about his argument wasn't part of my post so telling me all about it when I can see it doesn't add anything. The post wasn't a debate about digitals (GAON digital points would have been a more appropriate measure for that than Melon charting) - the guy was simply cherry-picking one metric to attribute failure.
His concerns were not about how much money it brought, or what JYP cares about. Again, this challenges nothing, it's simply how you would like for someone to view it rather than addressing the concern. We know he didn't care about this as his tangent went off about the general public. The physical sales were referenced to refute THAT point, since I'm pretty sure that revenue from physicals are a much more important benchmark for JYPE mgmt than how long they chart on Melon.
I can easily point out that albums generally are not bought for one single, rather for the goodies and collectables in the album or to show general support, thus reason for their success is different and the success of a digital single is from different factors and reasons. Especially since we're in a digital age where people usually buy the digital single and physical album to have the song easily accessable, it doesn't counter well to compare such things. Yes a single can attract more casual fans, but other content is what reels the fish in, not the single. That's the whole shtick of kpop.I don't know why I have to belabor the point, but again, my argument was that the merit of the song doesn't lie in a single metric (Melon charting), hence the references to other metrics (physicals, awards) as a counterpoint.

Forgot about the beef with Melon, that explains a lot. Can't wait for that to get ignored

I'm surprised though that Twice's votes were so low - even though looking at some of the others in it they should have got it regardless

Yep, and Twice gets hates for both awards because majority of people think that it is not very well deserved. No one did question the Cheer Up tho. And you gotta give it to the people when both songs weren't even best performing Twice songs the same year.
Cause physical sales somehow connect with digital sales, right? Twice sales have always been increasing regardless of how songs perform. I thought we are grown ups who have grown up talks here, this argument is just pathetic.
Yeah, a metric that came up in 2018 and you are questioning my metrics somehow. You could as well agree with blinks that D4 is the best selling song of 3rd gen group because, you know, they have highest digital index point.
Awards + album, ok, look up.
So you don't like comparing Melontop100 performance but you'd compare rooftop hits which depend a lot on competition. Might as well say DTNA performed the worst cause spend less time as #1.
Summer Night is a special album which can also be paraprased as reissue. Congrats to WIL beating its reissue I guess.
Another album talk, whatever.
Yeah, there are many relevant metrics and you used none of those. I made a legit point that JYP tracks performed the worst among all, both download wise and streaming wise

LMAO. I see that the serial whinger is at it again. No point replying directly - you've been trying to exhort Onces to complain about god knows what for a while now, and that fact that no one's taken you up on it should have told you something.
Anyway, in other news, and speaking of relevant metrics...

It wasn'tv god know what but legit reason that everything about Fancy was cheap as fuck and many people complained about it, mr "Twice doesn't make enough money to get more investment"
Yeah, and whats so great about those metrics?

StanJust looked at the MMA updates and Twice's votes are pretty low again - I wonder if fans just aren't voting as much as they know they're not going
Also how did Yes or Yes sell so much on Oricon - 170k pretty mad
Also what are people expecting for the album next week?

Tbh, I'm not sure what to expect. Above 300K, most likely. But possibly not much more i.e. we might not break any Oricon records. &Twice will be the fourth JP release this year. They had a dome tour earlier in the year, Tuwaii merch, and now Twicelights JP, with the tour ending at Tokyo Dome which I'm sure many will try to attend. When you consider all this, plus the concert merch, plus them buying KR albums as well...it's a lot of spending for J-Onces this year, and I'm not sure their wallets / purses are bottomless.Just looked at the MMA updates and Twice's votes are pretty low again - I wonder if fans just aren't voting as much as they know they're not going
Also how did Yes or Yes sell so much on Oricon - 170k pretty mad
Also what are people expecting for the album next week?
As for YOY and its 170K on Oricon, one possible reason may be have been their standout stage on MAMA JP , since the last 2 weeks of December saw a very significant sales bump (20K+ bump in Oricon sales). Having said that, a number of their other albums like BDZ, TTG and TCL1 and 2 also saw bumps in sales during the last few weeks of December over the years, so it could also be J-Onces buying albums for themselves for Christmas, or getting gifted those albums. It's probably a combination of all those factors. Still, YOY's 170K Oricon sales does sticks out. It will be interesting to see if FS will also get a bump in Oricon sales post MAMA and the weeks leading up to Christmas.
As for Melon, I think I- and K-Onces have given up on them. Usually, around this time, there will be plenty of Once accounts tweeting instructions to I-Onces on how to bypass voting restrictions and vote for MMA. I haven't seen any this year.
