A 53% increase in sales respect to FS first update is amazing, also this gives a lot of hope since Twice labels incompetence played against us. In the next comeback I'm sure we will get 750K+ if the geniuses at RR, JYP and WMJ stop being so incompetent
Source? I want to spread it on twitterDidn't see this posted anywhere-not really a chart but a recent regional survey taken in among 6,610 Elementary and Middle schoolers in Japan.
It's basically popularity of entertainers among students of that age. TWICE secured a really high ranking which surprised me.
![]()
Top 5 were
1, Hikakin. Huge YTer with like nearly 9m subs
2, Arashi
3, Ken Shimura. Popular variety comedian that recently passed away.
4, TWICE.
5, King & Prince.
Considering the only other 2 music acts making it in the top 5 are King & Prince who are really big right now and the legends Arashi I'd say this is a massive result for them.

I don't have a source for the original article I saw this browsing Korean boards-It's a regional survey from a particular area in south East Japan I think in the Kyushu region which is nice considering historically a lot of TWICE fame seemed to be on the main island so I suppose this is good to know they have gained reach through many regions of the country now.Source? I want to spread it on twitter
Do you have the link of that board? it will be enough. And yes, is amazing I hope Twice keep expanding in Japan, above anything it should be their focus.I don't have a source for the original article I saw this browsing Korean boards-It's a regional survey from a particular area in south East Japan I think in the Kyushu region which is nice considering historically a lot of TWICE fame seemed to be on the main island so I suppose this is good to know they have gained reach through many regions of the country now.

Hi I asked about it and got this tweet for you.Do you have the link of that board? it will be enough. And yes, is amazing I hope Twice keep expanding in Japan, above anything it should be their focus.

StanCan we also join K Onces in whatever they are doing?@Dreamer95 yeah I agree-Niave have an amazing ability to spend a lot of money and deliver tacky and cheap looking videos. K-Once have been going hard on JYPE this comeback, esp following the plagiarism scandal. I mean it's really pathetic that 1, not only are the folk at Niave not talented but 2, they are actively getting paid to steal ideas instead of creatively thinking...this theft has as well tarnished TWICE's rep at the end of the day so it's not even close to being acceptable. The fucking donkey's at JYPE dont want to hear it tho.

StanBTW, is anyone familiar with situation in China? Have the Tzuyu hate calmed down a little? If they really reopen to Kpop then all ggs will get a boost except Twice. China is the only way someone can surpass Twice at this point, so I'd watch it carefully.

Unfortunately as is the case with all ONCE any form of organised protest seems to be something we can't wrap our collective heads around lmao..Can we also join K Onces in whatever they are doing?
So it mostly just a huge shit storm on Korea boards and SNS for about a week or two after the plagiarism controversy hit. The back lash was pretty big with thousands of comments and all being the essentially demanding JYPE doesn't let Niave work with TWICE again...
Sadly this will make no difference-it's always Niave on JYPE videos and guess what...every JYPE group has pretty terrible MV's for the most part, certainly over the last 2 years.
Best hope is the company listened to the shit storm and at least takes on some of the complaints..no more lazy concepts, no more non sense videos with 0 theme, no more tacky CGI, etc and we'll be gravy.
Hi I asked about it and got this tweet for you.
Thanks a lot :hearteu:

NuguI don't think that's how it works.
Both fancy and fs album 1st month Gaon sales were actually equivalent to 1 week of tracking as both were released on the last week of the month. 2nd month Gaon sales of both albums reached 25k-30k.
I think it is safe to assume that the timeline of that 16k in MM is similar to that 25k-30k 2nd month sales of FS and Fancy. We should be expecting less than 10k monthly sales for MM in the coming months, that is if this album will follow previous trends..
BTW, is anyone familiar with situation in China? Have the Tzuyu hate calmed down a little? If they really reopen to Kpop then all ggs will get a boost except Twice. China is the only way someone can surpass Twice at this point, so I'd watch it carefully.
Not just China. NCT 127 had 80k + 25k traditional album sales from US alone hence the large difference in their Gaon and Hanteo sales.

StanSuch an interesting discussion you guys are having here, made me eager to join.
First of all, it surprises me how depressive onces became with more and more performance, basically projecting all kinds of disastrous consequences for TWICE, as if there is a kpop band in korea that could have managed to turn the song, almost half of which literally revolves around one note, into a major hit. I can see Mamamoo, RV, Gfriend TANKING with M&M so hard, like leaving melon top100 in a week. In the end, TWICE is doing great with the mediocre material they were given, way better than I was expecting at least. I am sure, the hype and public interest is definetely still here.
What's really worrying though, is how such a song actually passed JYPE famous blind test (lmao, remember how JYP bragged about WIL being chosen out of what, 500 options?). I mean, someone decided that choosing a song that have no prominent melody whatsoever (well, except for the part of the verse we heard as a teaser, week before the release) and can be used as an example of lazy songwriting, was a good idea. I really hope they just paid those "Grammy Nominees" in advance, without hearing any demos and were forced to go with a result.
Anyway, if RV somehow managed to recover from releasing RBB, Zimzalabim, Umpa Umpa in a row, TWICE is totally capable to do the same. One good song, no matter "cute" or "mature", just GOOD SONG can change it all.
It should have a chorus btw. And bridge. And pre-chorus.
Any melody will be good, If I'm asking too much.

This is basically the point I've been trying to get to...we have users like Namie talking about it being 'over' and other such non sense when it's literally a below average song that still charting relatively well.Such an interesting discussion you guys are having here, made me eager to join.

I agree the more worrisome issue is the company thought it was a good song which kind of leaves a slight impression that the people in charge may be out of touch and that could make it very difficult going forward selecting songs. Who knows.
I am 100% confident more hits are coming and TWICE are just in a period of finding their feet-we also have to consider JYPE is down 10's of millions right now from the covid situation and at this point in the year TWICE should have had a Korean comeback already and a single for Japan early in the year before even considering the 4 cancelled concert and the huge tour they had planned....
So with that in mind I'm not shocked JYPE potentially hurried a comeback to the market. Regardless of quality it's always going to be some level of success with TWICE and things to remember it's charting and selling in Japan better than anything in the last 2 years, 560k albums, BB200, best streaming so far and still topped Melon.
It's a great result imho and with Fanfare and the next Korean comeback I think 2020 is shaping up to be a very successful year all things considered.
We need to worry because RV don't have a JYP behind every thing they do trying to mess up their career, JYP has managed to take control over Twice music at the extent that he not only gets the most chances to produce the title track, he also direct how Twice sing a song even if he's not the producer... and he being a deranged old man who thinks everyone should sing with his ''half hair, half sound'' method no matter how bad it is makes this terrifying. He also (irrationally and with no reason) made Twice sing More & More in a cute way even when the concept, the song, the choreography and MV are not cute at all, and it doesn't fit.Such an interesting discussion you guys are having here, made me eager to join.

JYP is the only thing that make me worry, if we get BEP, David Amber or another producer we could get at least a Fancy level hit, that at very least is good in performance and quality.

NuguThe composer of MM is the same composer of Girls like us which is an absolute gem... So I would still love to hear mnek's works in the next album~
Speaking of next album, I hope it will be a full album with individual members cover versions like snsd's the boys.. I would definitely buy more and more copies~

LurkerHi guys, I just want to say something about "Feel Special".
I know that this title is considered by many as a “flop”. But what I find interesting is that "Feel Special" is still in the top 100 on Flo and Vibe. And you know how hard it is for songs to even enter Flo chart. Right now it's at #80 place on Flo. For perspective, Baekhyun's “Candy” is #86 there. Flo holds about 22% of the market share, almost as much as Genie.
Yes, Feel Special still not the best digitally performing TWICE's song overall, but to charting on Flo you need to have good longevity, so i find impressive for "flop" song to stay there for so long.
Personally, i think Feel Special is one of the best TWICE's songs, i like it even more than Fancy.

Twice aren't called the "flop queens" for no reason. People have been calling them flops since their debut, and yet here they are, the top selling Kpop GG of all time. As for digitals, the scene has changed significantly in the past year, but people have stuck to their old ways of gauging "success". Flo (and Vibe) has definitely taken a chunk of Melon users (probably a lot of Onces too) since coming online in Dec 2018, while Melon is being forced to revamp its methodology after being accused of allowing its charts to be manipulated.Hi guys, I just want to say something about "Feel Special".

Yet, people still treat Melon like the top dog in digitals that it no longer is. Let's also not forget that Twice has not attended the last two MMAs, but managed to attend the rest of the major awards. And at this moment, both Onces and Blinks are hard at work voting on an app to win a Popularity Award on Soba, even though it has been deemed irrelevant and has just been delisted from ichart for low usage. Like I said, people are stuck to their old ways of doing and looking at things.
There are so many metrics to track - the only way to avoid getting called a flop is to dominate all of them. But that kind of result is hard for Twice to achieve these days - stiffer competition from both GGs as well as BGs, new groups debuting, waning popularity of idols and idol music in SK compared to its heydays in the late 2000s/early 2010s, and of course, Twice shifting their sound from their usual Twice1.0.
I for one am less interested in digitals, especially SK digitals since they don't pay all that well in the first place. Album sales, concert tickets sales, goods revenue...those are more my cup of tea. FS? Third best-selling album behind M&M and TCL1. And they continue to grow their sales with every comeback, even in their 5th year. If that somehow makes them a flop, then I hope they flop even more.
But Fancy is still the best...
This basically sums up my thoughts as well. Sure, doing amazing digitally would be great, but people need to stop trying to force the narrative that it's an important metric especially when it pays peanuts to idols. They're a girl group that'll enter their 6th year in a few more months and they're still seeing fandom growth. Do people not realise just how insane that is?Twice aren't called the "flop queens" for no reason. Even SNSD, and I say this as a former Sone, never had this level of fandom growth and consistency. Each TWICE album surpasses the previous one and their tours are always huge successes. They sold over a million copies in backlog albums last year. I'd take all that over doing well on a washed up chart any day of the week

NuguThrice will be calling Twice flop even when they are 2nd in every sales metrics..

The problem isn't just over playing the importance of digital charting, but what it says and the public perception of the song.
To chart a little below par like Fancy is fine as the song is still a hit and still really loved. Feel Special was different and really only saved by longevity.
M&M is a different situation tho. I mean K charts may not pay much but they have benefits beyond that. They potentially help you gain new fans or more attention, makes you look like a hot prospect to potential CF deals as the hit song throws you back in the public eye, improves fan morale and engagement usually. With even more benefits.
I mean charting for M&M is atm pretty poor by TWICE standard and the charting only started to slip when they switched up their sound. Korea doesn't really like the sound, for the most part a lot of older fans don't either and it's been a mixed bag in Japan somewhat too....these are issues. 1 or 2 songs that don't go down well cause no harm...but eventually those fans who were here for songs like WIL? YOY, etc will eventually start to move away from the group as the concept and sound is not the same as what drew them in...
Now this isn't an issue if you're still dropping hit songs as that will bring in new fans...but that's not gonna happen consistently if you're releasing music most people don't like.
I mean digital charting may not be paramount....but it's also worth expressing that nor is charting lower than an Oh My Girl B-side that's more than a month older....that's not a good result in any way shape or form.
The new music is not up to standard when it comes to title tracks. That's really the bottom line.
I know TWICE are over 5 years old but that really doesn't matter. BP are about to turn 5 and still have a hit as it's consistent with the sound people love them for, Red Velvet are 7 and got a hit with great longevity to boot because it's right up the alley of their songs like Bad Boy and Korea/luvvies want that type of music and same for OMG....5-6 year old group dropping a big hit with the best charting b-side of the year.
Age for TWICE is just an excuse-in reality JYPE switched up the sound for a more cool and appealing music style ifans would like more and beyond Fancy that didn't really work as JYPE have no idea how to market for the west and instead of giving people what they want from TWICE we're getting these foot half in attempts at gaining ifans while still trying to be 'kpop' enough to appeal to SK GP and truth be told neither camp is really enjoying it that much.
