I went to find out the number of members in the next phase and I found this article
Apparently there are 20 spots for the next phase and 9 final members, as expected.
JYP Entertainment founder J.Y. Park has announced plans for the agency to debut a Japanese girl group.
At a recent press conference, he announced that the agency will be working with Sony Music to create a television show, Nizi Project, through which a new Japanese girl group will be created.
Auditions for the show are set to open in May, taking place in eight cities in Japan including Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Okinawa, as well as two U.S. cities, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
20 people will be selected for six months of training which will air in the reality show in October 2019. The group will eventually be revealed in April 2020 with a tentative debut scheduled for the end of 2020.
Nizi Project is similar to JYP's recent Chinese boy group debut Boy Story, which involved the agency collaborating with TME and Tencent to create the pre-teen boy group.

Personally I don't really see the distinction between Nizi's final group and any other kpop group. They'll be managed by JYPE, who did say that they will be developing the group using their well-establish kpop process. In fact, if Mako, Miihi, Rima and Yuna make it into the final group, they will have more capable Korean speakers than Twice has Japanese speakers (3), and if you add in Nina, you will have 2 fluent English speakers to 1 in Twice, and even Mina is not as confident in her English. I see no reason why the final group can't release Korean and English albums, much like how Twice and other kpop groups have Japanese and English releases. But I have such a feeling that Rima and Yuna wouldn’t make it into this group since the girls mentioned wanting to become kpop idols
Rima and Yuna are for sure part of the 20 going to SK for training. If the info about the final group having 9 members is correct, they both have a great chance of making the final group looking at their recent rankings. If it's less than 9, they'll definitely have to fight for it though. IMO, the only two who are pretty much locked in for debut are Miihi and Mako (barring injury, or breaking one of JYPE's do-not-do rules). The rest will depend on how well everyone else improves during the intense training period in SK. But I personally wouldn't discount anyone who makes the top 20 at this point, since they've all been selected because JYPE and the selection team saw potential within the candidates. Season 2 is when the show will really get really interesting.

I don't think so. If not, they wouldn't even participate in the show.Wow I’m so extremely existed. But I have such a feeling that Rima and Yuna wouldn’t make it into this group since the girls mentioned wanting to become kpop idols
If that is the logic, Mako will not make it either

JYP & SM stan. SR20G JYP20G enthusiastYeah about releasing korean albums, Knetz already didn’t liked the fact that Izone was working with AKB48 in the beginning. A Japanese gg releasing albums in S.korea wouldn’t be okay to them at all. And wait probably 4 years before JYP forms a new Korean girl group since Itzy debuted last year.

And I thought the same as a few posters when that stuff came out a year ago that it was a bit ambitious. But I guess we'll see.

There'll aways be knetz who are unhappy about Japanese idols. Despite that, Sakura, Nako and Hitomi have their own share of Korean fans, so nothing is impossible. People also thought that the PD48 group would never succeed because of the involvement of AKB and Aki-san.Yeah about releasing korean albums, Knetz already didn’t liked the fact that Izone was working with AKB48 in the beginning. JYP & SM stan. SR20G JYP20G enthusiastI know but there’s a difference. Nizi is a Japanese Aka Jpop girl group, and the Izone members are Japanese members members in a Kpop girl group. There'll aways be knetz who are unhappy about Japanese idols. Yuna, Rima, Mako and Mihi only have this chance to debut under JYPE. JYPE would face a backlash if they accepted any of those trainees if they failed to make it into a Japanese group which requires less talent.Wow I’m so extremely existed. StanI think the do or die is only really Yuna and Mako. They have had 2+ years training, Rima, Miihi only 7 months. I think Korea would be accepting of Miihi and Rima after a few years more training in a KPOP group. I think this is one reason you see Yuna so stressed out on the show as I think she knows this.Yuna, Rima, Mako and Mihi only have this chance to debut under JYPE. Some people seem to think this girl from dance group Tiny Tony is Katsumura Maya
Original fancam
It looks like her to me. Tiny Tony deleted every sns post about Maya but they forgot about this tweet they mentioned.
Seems like this was her last performance with the group

Music Core is playing in the background and there are Korean letters? Are they in Korea? Or is that just a Korean food vendor in Japan?
edit: This photo was taken at least 6 months ago based on the MuCore performance. I found the performance, it was aired on August 31, 2019.

I think the picture was taken in Japan. I can see some kanji and hiragana in the background, and the chances of seeing that in SK is slim. Probably in Tokyo's Koreatown.
