Those polka dot costumes are terrific! One of my new favs (y)

I found some great pics from the Natsu no Bakasawagi live!

What's up with Stardust managers and potatoes for phones?

Yeah that's strange :ohmygod:
I looked through it a bit, might put it on in the back ground some day but 3 hours is a lot. I'll try to watch the spectacle streaming show first.

Thanks! I've started to think so too, and maybe I won't rate or talk about all songs. My knowledge of music and related English vocab is just too limited. Calling almost all of BOLT's singles "pop rock" and then trying to explain the difference between them gave me a massive headache. And trying to explain what Crown Pop's Seiten Compass and Amfurasshi's Zatto no naka de sound like...

It looks like a Nagoya-based drama, I'm surprised she got it since she's not from Aichi. The hair might be a wig?

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about describing what the songs sound like. In interviews, they usually say what the genre of the song is, but sometimes it doesn't match what I'm hearing, lol. I definitely think it will save your sanity to focus on specific songs and make it more of a highlight thread than something comprehensive.

Looking at the pics again, I think you're right about Hinata wearing a wig. The bangs kind of give it away.

On Your Mark was played for the first time today

Natsu no Bakasawagi (online) was also held today! :palove:
It was always going to be a bit different than usual, but this one was even more so. As opposed to other online concerts (like Shachi's or Momoclo's previous one) it was held outdoors! The event was held at a seaside resort and as it was Natsu no Baka there were several foolish segments!
Slight spoilers:
They went in the pool and even went out on a boat!!

I also learned that Aarin is terrified of water... I heard on twitter that she can't swim, and if that's true it could explain it.
There were some sound issues, especially early on. You could hear the wind blowing and the members seemed to struggle uncharacteristically with the singing at the beginning.

That being said it was a very enjoyable concert with some songs they don't often perform

I'm going to have to check for a video upload. This looked like allot of fun! I think they even had zombies!!! Maybe Arin's not afraid of water, but water zombies

Yes! They used the polka dot costumes were such a great way of starting the live. I'm repeating myself but I was shocked because I expected them to be on stage indoors and not at a resort (the area is called Zushi Marina and Momoclo were there earlier this summer when they recorded a performance for a show).

I don't want to spoil anything about the concert but while she was certainly afraid of the zombies I wouldn't exactly call her unfazed by the water 🤔
Oh and about that, the VoD will be available at the end of the month so from then on you should be able to watch it, and hopefully in higher definition because I was watching in about 480p. There are also plans among international nofus to hold a streaming party on discord when that happens!

The photos are truly a gift... not only are they amazingly high definition which is rare for J-media/concert photos but everything about them is great. I'll look through all of them tomorrow probably.

Now for the other stuff!

I've at least made some progress with groups like Taconiji, Ebichu, Tokisen and Iginari and feel quite confident in those. For the other groups your advice will be very useful!

While I was listening to the songs I've also noticed some other releases such as a new Crown Pop song and some more BST. Sadly I wasn't that impressed by the BST releases. I had high hopes.

So some good and some potentially bad news.

Good news:

Ebichu will be releasing a digital EP on the 21st! It'll contain a new song (23-Kai me no SUMMER NIGHT), a new version of Yuuwaku Shita Iya, Sweet of Sweet and a solo version of COLOR. 23-Kai will be getting a MV which will premiere tomorrow.

Bad news:

TV Asahi is going to axe almost all their late night TV shows due to financial issues as a result of covid-19 and wanting to attract more viewers in the 13-49 age range. The shows' budgets per episode will also be cut from 2 million yen to 500k yen (less than 5000 usd).

So this might be the end of ももクロChan, which would be a shame as it's their longest-running show. Thankfully they have quite a few other shows (Momoiku, Musee du Momoclo, Loincloth...), so losing 30 minutes of content weekly might not hurt that much.

That would be kind of a shame to see Momoclo-chan get canceled, but like you said, they have other shows including their children's program. Considering Japan wasn't hit as hard by the pandemic as other countries, I didn't think companies would need to make cost cutting measures. Going from 2m to 500k Yen is a big drop.

Off topic, but this makes me concerned for Last Idol's show. It's been in the late night time slot on TV Asahi since Summer 2018. I'll have to investigate.

Back to Stardust related news. TokiSen released a Dance Practice for the coupling song to their next single "I'm The Number One Girl". I completely forgot the single hadn't come out yet. The MV was released way back on April 1st. I can't remember if it was delayed because of Covid. "Tomorrow's Strongest Theory!!" finally comes out Aug. 26th.

It got delayed. They originally promoted the song back in april iirc. I wonder why they've switched the dance practice room? I like this song a bit more than the other coupling track.

Date Kaya has been cast in the next Aikatsu series, "Aikatsu Planet" as the main character! It will be a mix of anime and live action and there are a lot of side games and stuff as you'd expect from these types of franchises.

The series will air on TV Tokyo starting in January 2021 and it's about 8 girls who want to become idols. The 8 girls cast are all from Stardust, including former Ebichu members Uno Narumi and Mizuki. The girls will also form an actual idol group called STARRY PLANET★. Not sure what that means for Iginari Tohoku San, but Kaya was back with them for the 5th anniversary.

(Shiori MC'd the event).

I just have to post this great photo of Ebichu's short hair/cheek trio
Ee-YaycVoAEZCXX

Not really sure where/when it's from but I saw it in this tweet.

"short hair/cheek trio" despite Hinata conspicuously having long hair, lol. Speaking of Hinata, I've changed my mind about her current hairstyle. I just got around to watching Ebichu's new MV and she has the same brown hair that she had in those bts pics from the drama. It must be real.

Crown Pop's life single is out so I thought I might post the MV too

Reminds me a lot of some SDP song but I can't remember which one

Here are a couple of older clips of Aarin and water... it's cute how she clings onto Kanako :heartublob:

Momoclo will also be on the cover of the August 28th issue of NYLON Japan

Yeah, I conveniently ignore that :shablob:
I'm not really a fan of the brown hair but I guess I'll get used to it or it'll change

Tokisen released the dance practice video for the last song from their single, Koi no JACKAL

My thoughts:
The intro is very catchy but when it ended and the rest of the song started I got disappointed. But it picks up again about 2 minutes in!

No comment on the pillow cases Momoclo are wearing on their heads 🤨

Based on the live stream Ebichu just did, Hinata's already gotten rid of the brown hair.

Batten was dropped by their record label, so every song they release under their own label (which I'm pretty sure they created to save face for the group and for Stardust) should be compared to their indie releases, which were few in number and relatively low in quality. I'm not going to pretend like I know what happened there, but their finances and connections have now dramatically decreased, and so the quality of the music is likely going to dip as well.

Koi no Jackal has been stuck in my head for the last couple days. The second half is just that strong, and the chakka part so catchy!

The trailer for "Looking for Magical Doremi" dropped!

ukka, Crown Pop, BOLT and Awww!! have been added to the line-up for TIF 2020

:wae:
It was fun while it lasted?
But yeah, they only released one indies single before they signed with Victor and it honestly wasn't stellar. Victor came in and helped them polish their sound a whole lot, but I guess the partnership ultimately wasn't what they were looking for. They needed time to craft their sound themselves and they didn't give themselves that before, and now it feels and sounds weird to hear them do just that.

It's especially noticeable compared to BGM, but the label change could end up being a positive in the long run! :jinjudge:
The songs weren't that bad, just a bit forgettable. Arigatoto was the most exciting. I also like their new logo.
It'll be interesting to see what Stardust does to distinguish them from Amefurasshi, BOLT and Crown Pop.

At least they didn't disband. After such a long time, and being dropped by their agency + with covid19, it wouldn't have been surprising. But since they didn't, it seems like they plan to keep going for a while yet!

I'd consider them more akin to TacoNiji and Shachi, since they are the last of the 6-member rainbow regional groups. And in that vein, they should probably redouble their efforts to get some media visibility, at least on a local level. TacoNiji have had a dozen different regular TV programs in Kansai, two of which are still going. Batten has only had the one where Kiyama is an assistant weather girl.

Does anyone know the writers off-hand for their new songs? I'm curious.
